Famas Internals

I've searched and searched and cant find a definitive answer: can the FAMAS motor be changed? If so would i need to replace it with a short type motor, since the eg560ht is rather short? Additionally, would this put too much stress on the old unchangable gearbox? I will be installing a pom piston head, with a polycarb piston and some metal bushings, with a PDI 120 spring. Have i mentioned anything there i cant replace?
You guys are the experts,thanks.

It's moddable to put in a new motor.

However, EG560 is the only one you can take without that mod.

I'm planning something like that over the winter, along with about the same upgrades as you (but an M100 or M110 spring).

Not mine. Planned over the winter, along with another crazy mod.

However, I just removed the buttplate on mine and looked at it- yeah, it should fit.

All in all, the top one is the planned mod.

Photochop was made by Agent Spencer of Arnies Airsoft.

I'll be upgrading about the same time as you, its my xmas present to everyone i play with :duke: Wondering if its worth taking my carry handle off too, I've no idea how to do this? An upgraded motor would put more wear on the gears (ie Systema Magnum motor when its out), would this motor shred those poor gears? I'm not sure how durable they are since i havent upgraded yet

How to do it?

Hacksaw and dremel. 'Nuff said, it's (unfortunately) got a 1 piece upper receiver. In my opinion, I don't like the high sites- so a G36 sight would be more versatile.

Nah, the gears are fine, I think. Other folks have done it before (I recommend signing up on Arnies Airsoft. One guy has 3 FA-MAS'es, and all are upgraded.

Honestly I don't see why you'd want to change the motor. Having worked with the EG560, EG560HT, EG700 and EG1000 motors, I'd say the EG560HT is superior to the EG700. The older EG560 were shit, but unless you have a really old FAMAS that isn't an issue (re-reading your post I just saw you had an HT, so you're fine).

I've run a PDI 140% in mine (stiffer than any of the springs listed above) with only a minimal drop in ROF using the same 8.5v 1500mAh battery (I "dropped" to around 1000 RPM, this was something desired since even with short controlled bursts, even a hicap would empty out unreasonably fast).

If you were going to put in an EG1000 then I'd say Okay, go ahead; EG1000's the shit. But an EG700? Even if I could swap that in without a mod to the mechbox, I'd pass that up.

Same mod can put in EG1000s, BTW.

I'd been gunning for an EG1000BT after finding out about it, but they're not on the market yet.

EDIT- in regards to your next post- yes, EG560HT can take it. There's a misfeed every once in a while, though.

You have a good point, but i just really really want a stream of plastic hurling at my targets. My alternative to these upgrades is to get a G&G GR16 (the new one), it runs a 9.6v battery from stock. I wana change the motor so i can stick a 9.6v in there, i seriously doubt the eg560ht could take it

Actually the EG560HT can handle 9.6v just as well as the EG700 and EG1000; most people just don't go that route because they never upgrade their FAMAS with enough power to require the larger battery, and nobody really wants the extra ROF since it's already higher than most people care for on the stock gun.

Oh, can the gears handle it? I'm terrified of chipping them since its impossible to get spares, but looking at my internals i think i might be able to swap them for some phoenix power gears with a slight mod
