If the spring is thin wire, tightly coiled, and fits around the barrel, it takes the place of a brass spacer at the front of the hop unit. It goes into the body of the hop, between it and the barrel, centering the barrel in the hopup unit.
I have several new hop buckings, some come with a brass sleeve, some have the wire coil, some have nothing. Your gun will tell you what it wants when you dissassemble it.
A little talcum powder works WAYYY better than silicone oil for installing these easy to tear buggers. I used baby powder in a pinch once, and was amazed at how much better the sucess rate was, I was buying two buckings at a time in hopes of getting ONE in properly.
And don't put WEEDEE40 on it! it will be toast, swelling up and turning to mushy goop.
