stock m15 + 10.8v 4500 maH battery = stripped internals.
Ok so like the name says I've got a CA m15a4 RIS with a 10.8v 4500 maH AN/PEQ battery box. I knew from the beginning this was probably going to give me an insane ROF but I wasnt aware exactly how much it was going to be. AS it is it's probably running around 2000 rounds a minute...possibly more, which is far to much for me.
So my question is, If I get one of these systema m120 complete gearboxes will the ROF drop to an acceptable level (1000 rpm.) or am I going to need different internals like maybe a super torque up gear set?

Your contact switch will burn with a high voltage and Mah battery. Downgrade your battery and change your spring to Prom MS110sp or same rated spring. Systema M120 will give you 400+fps or 420fps to be exact. So that means you have to be on semi only if you use M120 springs.

So there is no way around getting a smaller battery then? that sucks...what a waste of 90 bucks.

Sure... there's a way to stick with that insane battery you have: get an M140 or M150 spring and MOSFET switches along with super or ultra torque up gears.
Your contact switch won't burn out unless your load is high enough to cause your motor to pull an excessive amount of current. That WON'T happen with a stock spring. If anything, you'll strip your piston first. If you get a Systema complete M120 gearbox, yes, the increased load will slow down your rate of fire, as will the torque up gears that are installed in them. However, that battery is still on the excessive side. I wouldn't recommend any more than a 9.6v battery. You don't need to step up to a 10.8v battery until you start moving in to M140 & M150 territory. You may still end up stripping your piston teeth with that battery at M120. Instead of spending all the money on a new gear set, why not just spend a lesser amount of money (than a new gear set) and just get the proper battery that won't destroy your gun? |

Thanks Illusion, enlightening as always. I guess I'll be ordering a different battery, anyone in need of an "insane" battery send me a PM.

Can't you just unsolder the tabs of one or two of the batteries by opening the pack (and reconnecting them to the remaining batteries)? That would bring the voltage down.

Find a local battery store. Take your battery to them and ask them to remove a cell. It likely won't cost more than $15-20.....

Simpler way to put it; the guns are Designed by the Engineers at the Factory to use 8.4 volt batteries. Plain Electricity and Physics 101 (Do they still teach that in schools?) That's all there is to it, the rest of the explanation takes longer but is already written down.

Never heard of a battery store anywhere near my home but we do have an R/C shop that just opened up across the street. Methinks I'll have to go check it out later today and see if they can modify this beast for me. Thanks for all the helpful replies.

Good hobby stores will have the same batteries we use, and the knowledge on how to treat them.
Another way to put it; you are shoving jet fuel in a normal car... something will fail. You are going above and beyond the design limits. |

Not Eye Safe, Pretty Boy Maximus on the field take his picture!

you can cut 2 cells out of your battery, i chopped my 8.4v down to a 7.2 with no problems
