Grip safety mod on hicapa...
Yeah, ran into that "toy" marui problem. 1911's trigger fell with grip safety disengaged...
Anyone know how to overcome this? Or are all TM Hicapas irreversible? Thanks! |

My WE 3.8 had the same problem.
The problem is caused by safety lever pushing up against the corner of the mainspring housing (effectively artificially depressing the safety at all times). The fix was to remove the mainspring housing and cut out ~2mm of material off the corner. I actually had pictures somewhere, I'd taken pics when I did the mod, but ended up never posting about it.

Huhuhuhuhuuhuhuhuhuh you said "beaver" huhuhuhuhuh-- errr, i meant the grip safety.
It should be able to move back more, in order to be able to block the trigger (it's a very simple mechanism; it just rotates a bar into place behind the trigger, which prevents it from being pulled back). Normally it should look like this (note the backstrap is removed): If you look at the space below the grip safety, you'l see that the rear inside lip of the grip safety is pressing up against the backstrap. With the backstrap removed like in the pic above, you can manually hold the grip safety in place and see if it blocks the trigger, and compare that to it's position with the backstrap installed; that'll tell you how much excess material there is. Then you need to remove that and cut out the offending material, in my case it was about 2mm, and I'd guess its the same for most guns (the WEs were exact clones of the Maruis): For whatever reason (design of the gun) I only needed to do one side. I used an X-Acto knife since it was soft plastic and I didnt want to risk taking off too much material with a Dremel. This is all inside the grip, so the ugly scarring is moot.
