Sniper Paint Scheme Question

I'm planning out/saving up for a project M40A3 sniper rifle (based on Marui's VSR-10 G-spec) as it is the closest thing to the Canadian Forces C3A1. Should I get it painted Cadpat or the McMillan green marble pattern that the CF uses? Also if Cadpat should I get the full gun painted (body, barrel, scope, etc.) or just the body?

Snipers, even in the CF, paint their own gun to suit the terrain they're in with off the shelf spray paint most of the time. At least that's what I've read, so don't take it to be the "be all and end all" :P

Patterned guns look silly to me, but that's just personal opinion.

Thanks for the input, I should have mentioned that I will be skirmishing with it mainly in the wooded area around Wasaga, and since I can't get the gun to look completely like the C3A1, I figured that the marble or Cadpat would help to identify what I'm going for, if a bit patriotic. However, it would be easier to do my own spraypaint job on it (I have a PM out to Boneman in regards to the job, but I don't know if he's still around).

If you are going to paint your own be sure to know what to do. Their are a number of threads regarding painting and also i've found a couple helpful videos on youtube, however most of them are kids painting 2 inches away from their project. I personally would reccomend you use Krylon Camo paint, its very versitile and easy to use(I love the fanned nozzled).
If you have questions on how to go about painting, just ask.

The problem with painting "CADPAT" is that the colours won't match up quite right, so you'll end up a "with wrong sounding muppets" version of a paint job.

I'd go for painting the whole rifle, scope and bipod included.

If you want an effective camo theme, it must blend with your environement AND break the shape of the rifle.

If you take my cadpat M24 for example. It blend in well with the backgroud, but it lack breakpoints. You have to have the best compromise between both breakpoints and blend.

Your rifle should be invisible from 50feets in your environement.

It costs money to use, and after using it, you feel dirty?

Make sure you use a matt paint. Canadian Tire sells Military style Krylon and a clear hardner pretty cheap. If you paint your scope and descide later you don't want it painted but some acid based paint removed and follow the directions to remove the paint. Just don't over do it or you will take off the scopes factory paint as well.

I sent Boneman a PM about the Cadpat job, but I might just do a lousy ghillie job to break up the outline. The guys who posted the airsoft Sniper School videos on Youtube say you can just use elastics and natural foliage.

Natural foliage is a must. But you have to be carful on where you put it as it can move around a get into the mecanism or obstruct your FOV.

A usefull trick is to prepare a semi-rigid pad with elastic loops on it. You attach foliage to the pad, and stick the pad on your rifle. That way, the pad prevent the foliage to split and move around on the rifle. It also help break the shape of the rifle. British snipers do that. It's easy and very quick.

Thank Fox. I think I'll do that for now, and if I get a response from Boneman (and the balls to get the gun painted) I'll see if I can get a Cadpat job like yours. It seems to work pretty well from what I can see in your profile picture, and it looks pretty
