Silencers

Does putting silencer on an AEG actually make it quieter?

It's not strictly meant for that but sometimes it DOES help, supressors are mainly cosmetic and to hide longer inner barrels in airsoft, most of the noise coming from an AEG is in the mechbox, noise coming from a GBB is the instant release of pressurized gas. So answer to your question is yes...and no...

Some are merely for show, while others will muffle the muzzle report significantly. I have a silencer for my MP5. That gun is actually quite loud. With the silencer, you can hear the gearbox and piston still, but the muzzle sound is suppressed significantly.

It does reduce the muzzle report however, but like rex said most noise is from the motor and box. But you will notice a difference in sound with the silencer(plus they look good).

the easiest way to reduce the sound of a mechbox is to install a sorbo pad, They are under 10 bucks and will make your mechbox last longer and fire quieter, they sell them on airsoftparts.ca or trype "sorbo pad" into the ASC ssearch

I just installed a sorbo pad and its amazing, no loud whack anymore....just a soft thud when i fire. Great for guns that have a powerfull spring in them....

yup, apperently it makes so that dry firing doesn't really hurt your gun anymore too
