What maintenance after play in the rain ?

Hey guys (and ladies), what kind of maintenance would you suggest be done to an AEG and/or a GBB after a day in the rain ? I mean besides cleaning it up and drying it ?

What do YOU do to your gear after a day of play in the rain ?

I'm scared of taking my mechbox apart and lubing stuff. Any pointers ? Anything specific that just HAS to be performed so things don't rust ? IS rust a concern ?

With the grease and lube in your gearbox, the water pretty much repels it. Also, I don't think rain drops can actually be that much to drop into the gearbox. Even though the gearbox is screwed in with many screws tightly, the only water that can much go in is if you dunk it in a pool of water.
Your body also covers the gearbox so that isn't a problem too.
If you do plan to play in the rain, you should cover up battery connections, wires, etc. Also, the motor too, since it has a little hole under the grip.
Fire selecter, hmm, not much water can get INTO there, since you don't play with your gun sideways.

Generally, I just give my guns a really good wipedown and make sure they're dry before putting them away after playing in the rain.

hell you can take a blow dryer to it just to be certain.

with a little WD 40 to displace the water and then wipe it down.. the Mechbox is protected enough that water should not get in there ( unless you walk around muzzel up in a downpour )

Mags will rust .. so they should be wiped down with a little light oil....

I've gamed my m733 during heavy rain, running an exterior mounted (taped on) 9.6v battery, with no problems at all. Just wipe down anywhere water could trickle in and sit. If you have any carry handle screws or scope ring screws; unscrew, dry and dust with some silicon spray.

Just do not put ANY WD-40 'into' the gun, the solvents can eat at any rubber parts causing your gun to crap out on you. It you are going to use it, use it for external parts only.

A note for AUG owners, depending on what inner/outer barrel combination you have, the brass inner can and will rust to the alu sleeve inside the outer barrel. If you've played in very heavy rain such that water could get between the inner and outer, make sure you wipe them down (easy on the AUG, just held in by two screws).

What he said... only for external use... to displace water in the nooks and crannies on the outside. and wipe it clean.

My aeg got completley submerge in water a few months back. I just took out my mechbox and let the gun dry in seperate pieces just to be safe.

Just a quick note to thank you all.

One thing occurred to me while taking my AEG apart for cleaning: my motorcycle and my AEG share similar molex electrical connections. One thing I do to "waterproof" my bike's electrical system is pack the molex connectors with dielectric grease.

Perhaps also packing the AEG's molex connectors with dielectric grease would be one way to waterproof those connections. Hmmmm....

EDIT: OH, one more thing. Do you think placing sachets of a desiccant, like silica gel, alongside your weapon in its case, would remove any traces of water ? In case you don't wanna take your weapon apart to dry internals...

I was at the rain game too, and took everything apart down to the mechbox. There was white stains in some spots. It almost looked like salt stains you get in the winter. I am letting everything dry out at the moment. There was water inside the body of my M4, so I am glad I took it apart.
