I have heard of the plastic breaking around the teeth before with the Deep Fire pistons but that was the first generation. The one I installed is a ver.2 or 2nd gen and just looking at it there is more plastic around the teeth.
The bearings in my gun seem to be holding up okay, have only had a couple thousand rounds through it though, nothing huge. Highspeed gears alone in a gun is okay with low power springs. I remember reading about this stuff before here on ASC and everyone said "never put highspeed gears AND motor in the same gun, the piston will die" and thats only true if its sub 350fps. If you tune it right you can run highspeed gears, highspeed motor, and a large 10.8V battery. Sucks that my only gun with a 10.8 had the gears strip and the pinion gear die because of the bearings, stupid SystemA..... Though I may snag the Modify set out of my normal ver.2 M4 and the G&P high speed motor out of my parts bin (its waiting for another gun but screw that) and see what those do together with a 10.8V. Currently with standard gears and motor its only shooting 21rps with the 10.8. My main M4 with the helical gears and turbo motor is pushing 26rps (without a peak charged battery) with only a 9.6V. Then again these are both 380-400fps guns, my AKS-74U which only shoots 310fps is shooting 24rps with a SystemA turbo and 9.6V stick battery. |

man, this is so complicated, cant we all just keep the mechbox stock?

Suggestion : why don't you buy non-modular gear set?
Modular sets are cool for a hobo that doesnt know how to shim, you don't look retarded, so why don't you stick with usual gear set? If you can't slide the sector clip in , dismantle it, put the clip, bring it back together ??? Oh, sorry for deepfire fans, but its crap.

Then there's pushing the limits. High ROF, 400++ fps, fingers and toes crossed that the mechbox makes it through the mag, big battery, big motor, gear ratios, lighter pistons, etc... Personally I like the latter...not for games...but rather for figuring things out. All the parts for a really good mechbox is going to run what? $240-350? That's cheap for a bunch of smiles and giggling like a kid. Not to mention the personal satisfaction of building something that tweaked out. When I get a solid stream of bbs firing like a minigun and they're clipping out at 400+ fps...I could care less if I blow a $90 gearset and/or a $40 piston. Not that I get the chance to work on my own stuff anymore... |

One of my gun is at 30rps shooting at a high 400fps and lows 389fps. I have run thousand and thousands of rounds into it, I play every saturday and I go through 4000rnd or more in one game day. I do regular check ups on my internals and everything is holding up and no signs of wear. I am not done yet. waiting for parts to make it shoot over the roof ROF.
On topic. Sector clip does not fit straight up on the Modify sector gear. Sector clips need a little modification to fit. Last edited by damage; September 12th, 2008 at 00:57.. |

I always keep one or two stock guns around as backups, but since I have been getting much better at this highspeed business I have been tweaking guns more. I just bought it for fun to see what its like, all my other guns have standard loose gears. Started this thread just to see if anyone else has put a sector gear clip onto the modulars. Deep Fire is absolute shit, I hate their products with a passion except for the one piston. I had it in my AK I mentioned earlier and it lasted around 10k rnds before I put the stock parts back in the gun and sold it, piston still looked new once I cleaned the grease off of it. I'm still an avid fan of Prometheus hard type pistons, they are what is in most of my guns (only ones without are my stock guns, my one ICS upper mechbox with the Deep Fire, and my one ICS upper with the Guarder.) Thanks for the tip, will pull a POM clip out of one of my other guns and put in the titanium so I can get a clip that I can actually modify with the tools I have to put on the modify gears. |

Modify highspeed gear set here. Have a King arms chip wishing to be installed. Trouble is the KA chip has a hole diameter way too small. I thought about filing it but then the hole would end up eating too much of the thin side of the KA chip and I'd end up with a two piece chip. I thought about welding it on to keep it from moving. Right now the KA version 2 chip is sitting out side the mechbox. To note I'm also using the Systema turbo motor and it is not misfeeding.
The metal pin of the sector gear is way too strong to file it down. If I were crazy, I'd attempt heating up the sector gear and popping the pin out then use a grinder to make it a smaller diameter for the KA chip to fit.

So looks like the G&P highspeed motor is on par or slightly lower than a SystemA turbo in terms of speed. My guess is it has less torque (a SystemA turbo can turn over up to Ms135 springs) but is giving my shorty M4 (4" barrel) a solid 30rps with a MINI 9.6V battery.
Still haven't tried the G&P ultra type, the one with the rare earth magnets same as the SystemA motors. But in my opinion their torque and speed motors perform only slightly below SystemA motors for 1/3 the price. Just an FYI |

LOL. I've got a G&P M160 motor + Modify Modular HS gears being pushed by an 11.1v Lipo. ROF is savage.
