fuse box for AEG
hi, everyone. I have recently broke my fuse box for M4. I have checked many places to replace one, but no where had one. I wonder is even fuse box necessitly to operate? By the way I use 9.6v battery.
thanks |

A lot of people run without one...while others swear by them.
You can get a tube fuse "box" from Canadian Tire or The Source (RadioShack). They're usually a white or black tube...you unscrew one end and drop your fuse in. Just solder it into your red wire. Just a couple of bucks...get extra fuses while you're at it. Most guys have spares of the stock ones (I've got 4-5) but it's hardly worth shipping. Best of luck, Tys |

No, many people do not use fuses, me included.

This is my own thing...not a hard and fast rule, but I believe it to be true (and it works for me).
The fuse is there to pop to stop too much power from being dumped to breakable parts like the motor and switch assembly. Cheaper to replace a fuse than to replace a blown motor. For example...if you have a lockup (which does happen), if you hold down the trigger thinking that it'll eventually fire (which it most often won't) or plug in a bigger battery and hold down the trigger (where it may or may not turn over)...you'll end up dumping a lot of electricity to the motor. The motor is jammed and will just heat up. Your wiring will heat up. Your switch assembly will heat up. When a motor overheats, the magnets degrade permanently...and it'll never be as strong as it used to be. If you're wiring heats up...the casing can split, resulting in a short (which will drain/over-discharge your battery, which may kill it permanently). If you over heat your switch...it may melt completely...or go sort of wonky (the fins "burn" out and it won't pass power correctly). All that can happens pretty fast. All that can be avoided by not holding down the trigger trying to get your AEG to "magically fix itself"...but it's a normal reaction and hard to resist. If your AEG sounds funny, makes a bad noise or locks up...stop trying to shoot with it! Figure out what's wrong first. So...a fuse will help with that...it'll pop and you'll be forced to stop (most guys put a new fuse in, which pops...and then they realize that they should check out what's actually wrong with their AEG). Or...you can realize that somethings wrong, stop and get your AEG checked out. Fuses work...but I don't personally feel the need for them if the shooter is aware of their AEG and what's going on.
