Bolt Action

Hi,

This topic may have been covered before in fragment, but here it goes again.

What would be the best bolt action sniper rifle out there, all modifications permitted, no budget restriction apply?

The rifle would be use outdoor in Canadian field (running a 450 fps (o.2) max for BA sniper I believe).

By best rifle, I would say, most accurate, reliable (and quiet). Also, would it be a spring or gas powered model?

Thanks,

Bong

Those 3, once upgraded, are the best rifles there is.

I might add Tanaka and KJW M700, that are gas and quite good, but only for summer in fair weather.

Other rifles are inferior IMO. But there are some exceptions.

I would say a 500fps (0.20) limit for BA...

Regular field limits are set to 450fps chronied with 0.20g BBs for B/A snipers. (1.88j limit)

Some field will allow higher fps to respected and seasoned snipers, or snipers that have taken the sniper clinic.

how much more range do you get ( straight line trajectory before hop effect) with a good sniper gun, compared to a good upgraded AEG that shoots really straight ?
is it relevant?
(asking cause I dunno)

I would say not much (but again) it depend on much FPS you can use out of it. The key would rather be accuracy on the first shot and low noise (harder to locate). But again, I m no sniper expert (but this is were having a BA make sense to me). How many time did you let loose a AEG burst at long range to see the target ducking because of the noise (sound travelling faster then BB) and the BB hitting were the target was...

A 450fps rifle should have an effective range of 160fts using 0.30g BBs
Compared to a 400fps AEG that have an effective range of 145fts using 0.25g BBs.

Effective range is the maximum range at witch the BB travel in a traight line relative to the ground. After that, the BB lose it's lift and drop to the ground. It's not the absolute maximum range, wich is more than double the effective range usually.

Higher fps boost the effective range a bit, but mostly allow the use of heavyer BBs and short time of flight to the target. That result in more accuracy and higher chance of hit. Since the effect of wind is direcly relative to the BB time of flight and BB weight, the heavyer and faster your BB is, the less derivation from your point of aim you will have.
