Covering "Stock" Trades for Engraving

Hey everyone,

I've tried searching around to see if anyone has done this (I'm sure its been done) but I can't find any threads on it.

Basically I'd like to cover over the stock trades on the lower (plastic) receiver of one rifles and then get it re-engraved with a new different set of trades.

Is this possible, has anyone actually done this, and if so how?

I'm attempting to mod an M16A2 into a C7A2 and I don't really want to spend $380 getting a metal body at this time, this I figure is my other option.

Alternate ideas welcome too.

Thanks!

I sanded off trade marks on a metal body with FINE sandpaper ,it was pretty easy. Just had to be careful to not leave deep scratches in metal. Than i repainted with 3 coats of flat black barbeque paint. Then I had it engraved with my choice of trademark. Not sure how deep engraving is on your plastic body though, mine was only shallow laser etching (g&g). You might be able to sand yours as well and then repaint

forgot to mention ,if trademarks are deep you might be able to mix and fill in old trademarks with a resin and wipe excess away immediately and then lightly sand when curedto blend in. Put You would have to test on low visibility area or similar plastic first to test. It also depends if you are going to engrave directly on top of this with new trademark. The new engraving might have issues with this different combination of material . I have also had good success highlighting engravings with washable white paint which I can keep applying and wiping away from smooth surface when dry ,leaving a bright white paint in trademarks which can still be removed if I ever wanted to without damaging black paint on body. Just my thoughts though good luck

I like your paint idea for the short term.

I figured epoxy would be the way to go. Its a standard Mauri, body and I don't know what they use in the composition of the plastic. Do you know if its like a soft Nylon Fiber or Polycarbonate, like what STAR uses?

Not sure about the composition question, but you can get the wash away white paint at Micheals Craft store to highlite trademarks. And if you want to remove later just use warm water and toothbrush

Use that two-tone epoxy stuff, use a small scraper to get it in there, get any excess off the receiver, let dry and you're done.

Do you mean "five-in-one" -- The yellow and clear (from Canadian Tire) , or 3M - PRC (Black and Grey).
