Hey guys I need help in choosing a proper pair of "googles". I purchased a pair of CA goggles but last time I played at FR I was told that the goggles must be paintball goggles and had to rent. Does this mean I have to buy a paintball mask and remove the goggles or do I have other options?

The goggles in the masks are so dam uncomfortable.

Where can I find goggles that are paintball approved?

If the paintball field you're playing at states that you MUST wear a full paintball mask then you're stuck with just that. It has to do with their insurance policy. Some fields and private games allow the use of ballistic goggles alone, but a full mask at a PB field is generally the norm.

Best to find a mask you are comfortable with to use on those fields and save your goggles for games on a private field. Try the local paintball field's pro-shop, assuming they have one, and try out a few to see which one you can live with.

I did not have to wear the whole mask, just the goggles. My buddy who pulled his out of his old mask was allowed to use them. I'm just curious how they can tell the difference so i can purchase a pair that fits their requirements.

If they're cool with just the goggles then look for a pair of ANSI rated ballistic goggles from companies like ESS, Revision, or Arena Industries.

Since the CA ones aren't officially recognized as being ANSI or MIL-SPEC approved that's probably why they wouldn't allow them. They may be just as tough, but they haven't been tested using accepted certification standards. A certification of ANSI Z87.1 is the minimum you should be looking for. Make sure it's Z87.1 and not ANSI Z80.3. The Z80.3 rating is for optical clarity and has nothing to do with impact resistence.

If the field says paintball goggles they are basically saying the lenses themselves need to be from a paintball manufacturer as they are "paintball approved" and thats what their insurance company requires them to have on the field to be covered. Although ESS and other goggles of that sort are very comfortable I would check with the field owner or the game admin that day to see if the goggles you have are allowed to be used. Here at a local field we werent able to wear bolle and ESS for a time (I think they allow them now...) but up untill the last game I attended there it was paintball goggles only (Brass Eagle / JT.... etc, but only the goggle part is necessary and the rest of the mask part is optional)

I got myself a pair of JT Spectra's (dual lense/thermal lense as it helps with the fogging issue so I have heard)

Ah, yes...disregard most of what I said. Demco is correct, they need to see that the goggles are PB approved. In the wording of insurance policies it probably says nothing about ANSI ratings and the like.

Most people seem to like the JT Proshield (Spectra). They just pull off the mask bits and run with the goggles. These can be had for around $50-$60CDN.
