For starters, HS gears are usually designed to work with stock springs (aka 280 fps). Systema recommends nothing higher than M100 with HS gears. I usually don't go above M90 (328 fps) with HS gears. Also, you may want to consider a tappet spacer/disk if you're going for a high ROF setup.

ok, so i know this was a really dumb idea, but figured what the heck. i attached the power leads to an 18v 1300mah battery, and omg. i only did a few shots but i could swear it turned my gun into a leaf blower! maybe get an 11v lipo, upgrade switch to mosfet, and polycarbonate piston? switch bushings to bearings?

I got smooth modular gears... on the back they said recommended S100+, S110+, and S120+. I used a S110 for maybe 3000 rds... no wear whatsoever, and an ROF like nothing else. that 13.1:1 ratio recommended s90+ and s100+ I think... |

You can "power" through almost any mis-match of parts...it just won't last long.
e.g. "fix" a bad gear ratio/motor spec by goosing it with a BIG battery...it'll work, but it'll kill your motor even deader. When motors are over heated, they loose their magnet strength permanently. When they cool down they're weaker than ever. "fix" a tight setup with a really strong motor and big battery...it'll work, but it'll wear your parts faster than if it was setup nice. The motor will power through it, but your gear teeth will take the brunt of it and you risk stripping them. Good luck, Tys |

ok, so heres the verdict. too stiff of a spring for the current settings. i took ty's advice and cracked open the gearbox. double checked my shimming and no problems found. tryed the stock (approx 90 spring) and shazzam, it works with the 8.4v. adjusted motor height to perfection. put in s120 spring, and "click" no go. tried stock ratio ca gears with 120 and it worked fine, but not an impressive rof, tried with a friends 9.6v and it was decent. figured what the heck, go for broke. made a visit to the shop and bought a systema magnum motor, polycarbonate piston, allum. piston head, bearings instead of bushings, bearing spring guide, better tappet plate, 12v battery and pouch, and some more lube. slapped it back together and wow. makes the stock version look like a pea shooter. next thing on my list would be to rewire everything and set up a relay for it since im a little iffy on the mosfets. i cant wait till i get a chance to chrono it, that is if the gearbox case doesnt explode before then hahaha. thanks for everyones help.

If I were you I would put the bushings back in. Keep the bearings on the bevel gear.
And watch for the pinion gear, apparently systema ones have issues. Also, if it's a 12v normal battery, that would probably put a lot of stress on the gears. |

Sorry if I repeat something, I'm in a rush.
Check your motor wiring. I had mine backwards and the motor turned the wrong way, or tried to. The anti-reversal latch saved my mechbox but stopped it from turning. Hope this helps! |
