How should guns be stored for medium to long periods of time? Anything to check as far as humidity, temperature, etc?
what about mags? cheers. |

Store mags unloaded, make sure you fire the gun a few times in semi and dissconnect the battery.
For long periods of storage (2 year +) I would open it up and remove the spring. |

AEG or GBB?
From what I know, AEG, either remove your spring, or make sure it's not compressed. Of course, empty your mags of BBs. For GBBs, leave a bit of gaz in your mags, but as for the gun itself, no clue. EDIT : Amos beat me to it :P

Unload BBs from the mags (no clue about GBB mags care) and release the tension on the AEG spring by letting the gears cycle in single fire so the piston is pushed forward all the way. Some AEGs like the G&G L85 pre-tension the spring at the end of the single fire cycle but have a release clutch located in the magwell to allow the piston all the way forward.
Disconnect your battery and store it in away a cool place with half a charge, keep it away from heat sources and sun, never leave batteries on trickle charge, never completely deplete them, avoid storing them with a full charge. Store your AEG in a gun case after cleaning it, you might want to throw a couple sillica humidity absorber packets in your gun case as well. |

Whats the proper way to store the pistol it self? I know people recommend too keep a bit of gas in the mags to keep the seals lubricated. But other than that I dont know
Thanks, Geoff

Apart from the gas in the mags to retain the pressure and lengthen the lifespan of the seals, I would say field strip it, clean/oil it and then store it as you would any other firearm. Cool dry place would be good. I have those "do not eat" silica packs in my gun cases to reduce the chance of rust.
Hope this helps, and is right :P
