Airsoft at UNION BATTLE CITY - Chiba, Japan
After a private invite and discovering upon arriving that I'm the only foreigner to be playing at these special events I felt pretty lucky to make my way from Tokyo out to a far end of Chiba (about 75km away from my place). The group of about 15 players (on the game organizers private bus) met with me in the heart of Shinjuku early yesterday (September the 11th, 2010) early at about 7:30am and quicky boarded the bus.
It was an hour and a half trip on the highway out of Tokyo, heading North-East along the coastal highway, passing by sites such as Love Hotel Alley (with nearly 150 love hotels in a ten square block radius), Tokyo Disney Land and Disney Sea and other shopping venues popular these days (Ikea, MAX Shopping, JAV Factory). Once we arrived, I was quickly whisked away to one corner of the staging area and upon passing through most others, it was as if someone farted loudly in the middle of a family member's wake. Conversations stopped. People quit loading their magazines and I felt nearly 100 pairs of eyes staring. Upon turning around and saying loudly that 'it was a pleasure to meet everyone, let's do our best and play hard, I am Chris from Canada, not American!', everyone's eyes lit up with smiles and I was warmly welcomed. On the bus with a few of the players, on our way to the game. Almost there! .... umm... is this the field? Just another 3/4 of a km!

Craft Apple Works mini-gun shorty - a double-fist full of awesome. A lawyer (on the other side) and a heart surgeon trying to repair the M500 shotgun which broke after two shots. Sadly it didn't work as the rocking rod was broken on the inside, but they gave it a hell of a try. Thanks gentlemen. Yep, it's Sept. 11th.

Thinking he was safe, Satoru took a quick breather moments before the dude with one of the mini-guns stepped out from around the corner and unleashed firey hell, smoking me in the leg as well. No photos as I was trying to hide my lens. Anything with a red mark is out of stock... and they re-stocked it four times this day. Yours truly with two of the opposing team members.

Yours truly hefting a heck of a heavy minigun. Playing 'Paper-Rock-Scissors' to win prizes. He won a copy of 'Sacana', something about a kind of fish. She won a limited edition GUNDAM model Extra points to whoever figures out where I am.

Wow great pics Aqua! I got to play that field a couple summers ago. Blazing hot, I was running around shirtless in the armpit humid heat. I got a mild burn after diving prone onto a steel surface on top of one of those squat structures.
Lower FPS limits make for a close in fight. Lots of maneuvering at Battle City with good cover for flanking moves. A well coordinated team can really do well there.

Nice! I love how serious the Japanese take airsoft. One more reason for me to go there....
I might be thinking of a different Battle City Union game, but did someone there melt their crane stock battery for their Mk18? |
