ICS M4 Upper Gearbox Problem

A while ago, My ICS M4 started to make this wierd electric whine sound whenever I tried to fire the gun. Its not the gears grinding or anything in the lower gearbox as I Can take the upper gearbox off and it sounds fine. It sounds like the gearbox is having problems pulling back the spring in the upper gearbox to me. Any suggestions?

The battery is fully charged... But just to make sure I'm doing it right, How long do you have to charge an 8.4v mini for?

If you think it's charged and it isn't working, try a different battery.

And that question is very vague, no one can answer that (you need to know charger rate, battery capacity, etc, all of which doesn't matter if you have a smart charger)

I have opened up the gearbox. All of the internal parts don't have any problems with em.

if all the internals look good, then check the motor. Pull it out and plug it in. If it has bearings or not, it could be worn and whine.

It is not uncommon to have the spur gear break a couple of teeth. There is often enought contact to free-spin the gear train when the upper gearbox is removed. As soon as load is applied, the broken teeth fail to transfer load, resulting in whining and the piston is not retracted.

Spin the gears slowly by hand, and observe the teeth individually. You can only see the spur gear and the sector gear. To observe the bevel gear, remove the motor, or remove and open the lower gearbox.

With ICS, it used to be the spur gear that would fail.

Can you give some more details on what the whining sound is you are hearing?

Ok, here are the things I've tried to help fix the gun:

-Taken apart both Gearboxes to check for any broken gears (There was nothing broken)
-Fiddled with the Motor adjustment screw. (No major differences)
-Run just the lower gearbox apart from the Upper Gearbox (Sounds ok.)

As soon as I go to put the upper gearbox on, I get the high pitched mechanical struggle sound. If I lift up the Upper Receiver so that the black tab thing (im not sure what its called) is touching the little nub on the gear, the tip of the gearbox goes nuts like it should when it is all the way on. Im thinking that the gear in the lower gearbox isnt pulling the large white tube with the notches on it back. (Please excuse my lack of knowledge about the names of the individual parts.)

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd rather not have my M4 become useless.

- Run just the lower gearbox and use something to apply resistance to the movement of the gears; like a finger or a screw driver.

It's possible the gear that connects to the spur gear which is pressed into the bevel gear is broken. They have a bad habbit of becoming free and will spin when resistance is present. It looks fine and will run the gears without problem with no resistance...

Replace the bevel gear and you're good to go.

Ok, quick update. I started to push the gears with my thumb when I noticed that if I push quickly it seems to slide without grabbing any gears. How might I fix this? I opened it up and I have no idea.

If one gear turns and the other don't, you have a stripped gear.
Get someone who knows what they're doing to look at it.

The bevel gear is broken (the black steel part is loose from the grey casted part). Happened to every CANSOFT ICS I worked on so far, including both of mine.

Problem is ICS have a different angle on the pinion and bevel than other brands. Meaning that unless you change the gears AND the motor, your gun will make a lot of noize. Won't break anything, but it will sound more like a sewing machine.
