Pistol Purchase

I am relatively new to airsoft games and have just realized the usefulness of carrying a sidearm, especially in CQB. This being my first pistol purchase I am unfamiliar with who makes a good pistol and what fuel type to look for. My fav pistol styles are the H&K usp compact or Walther P99 but what I really want is a reliable pistol right out of the box that will be easily upgradeable when/if the time comes.

So I guess what I'm asking is a couple of things,
1) for you to tell me about pistols that you think are good quality and reliable
2) to compare C02 vs. Green Gas

Well, I like WE alot, KJW as well, but you can still go for Tokyo Marui !
But the first key for airsoft in canada is GET AGE VERIFIED ! you'll be amazed at how many pistols there are in the classifieds !

What you want is a pistol that suits your hand, usually that means trying a bunch out. You might think you're a USP guy but will suddenly realize a Glock feels right.

Then you want to make sure you can get spare magazines so it should be from a well known brand. After that you need a holster so weird stuff like Desert Eagles can be a mistake.

Green vs. Co2, pretty much any pistol that's decent for a skirmish will be green. Get an adapter and run propane with self mixed silicon oil to save cash.

For your specific models mentioned there isn't much choice in the P99 world. You're pretty well stuck with a buggy Maruzen. For USPs there's good choice from KSC/KWA and a coming soon flavor from TM. There are less common USP models from Tanaka and Tanio Koba too, along with the NBB MK23 from TM.

If I was looking for a USP right now I think it would most likely be a KWA USP Tactical that I would home in on.

Glock is very well designed for fast instinctive shooting due to the grip angle in reference to the sights, it's more angled than most pistols but once you learn to put the front sight on target and pull the trigger, you'll find it works great for fast shots, most important in CQB environments. I tried this a few times with my Mk23 (about the same grip to sight angle as most other handguns out there, and found it much harder). Glock went with the pointer finger approach, in that when you naturally raise your hand and point at an object quickly, the sights will be close to dead on, as opposed to other grip angles that'd make your shot go high.

I bought a kjw p226 propane it's fine for me i don;t see anything wrong with it.. I just painted it a bit and thats it..

personally i really like the kjw glocks, but thats all it is, a personal preferance

one of my teammates runs a 1911, another has 2x 92fs, and my old man runs a glock 18

its really what fits your hand and allows you to take quick accurate shots instinctively

Well,as some people know, I've got an assload of pistols, ranging from low cost WE and KJW, TM, KSC, WA and even a couple of full customs. Some look better than others, but 2 of them really stand out to me.

First if my KSC Glock 17. This thing has been my workhorse pistol for years now. It's been reliable, stupidly accurate, and just a pleasure to shoot. I'll echo Stalker's assessment of the pistol for its angle / ease of use. I have a respect for the Glock I never really had before because of this gun.

Secondly, the newer addition to my collection that is rapidly turning into my favorite gun - the Tm FN 5-7. I originally bought it as a collection piece to have as the mate to my P90. I quickly discovered this pistole is actually quite amazing. The range and accuracy are just stupid they're so good. And the large mag size assures you have plenty of gas to get off at least 2 full mags worth of shots at full power.

However, what amazed me most was the gun's performance in cold weather. At -10º C - a temperature that will render most GBB pistols inoperable - this thing still shoots hard and reliably, getting a full 2 mags worth of shots out of 1 gas fill. Even after having found a mag that I had lost in the snow a couple of hours earlier, I put it in the gun, and got off 2 full mags worth of shots. To me, that's nothing short of amazing. And the fact that the real gun is completely plastic means you don't need to upgrade parts to make it more realistic.

That being said, if you go down this route, I would recommend right away replacing the shitty aluminum outer barrel with an aftermarket steel replacement (about $15). Due to its design, the aluminum barrel will break under the stress of propane.

If money is an issue, then my top recommendation is the KJW Beretta M9. I had one for 3 years, shot mag after mag out of it, and the only issue I ever encountered was the plastic mag catch wearing out. Otherwise, the gun works like a charm. I got a TM-based UNC custom M9 a while back, so gave my old KJ M9 to a friend for his bday, and as far as I know, it's still working great, depite him being utterly cursed with pistols.
