Let's talk first-line M4 mag pouches

I'm looking to update my first line. Anybody have experience with the following:
1) Raven Concealment
2) Eagle FB open-top
3) Emdom Immediate Access

1) Raven Concealment because I'm a Magpul fanboy, but the 4 month lead time is a huge turn-off. Was the wait worth it?

2) I've got a couple of the Eagle double pistol mag pouches and while they're OKAY, I find the retention to much too aggressive to the point where I'm literally yanking on my belt to extract secondary mags. Anybody have this problem with the Eagle M4 FB mag pouches?

3) I like the thought that went into the Emdom IAP, but I'm concerned about the retention ability of this insert-less pouch. Yes it does have the triple retention system via a foam, rubber coating and front elastic, but how does it hold up in a full-out run-and-dive scenario?

I use condor M4 double mag pouches, remove the flap on them, and I reload faster than anyone in manitoba without dropping mags.
As long as you know how to USE a typical double M4 mag pouch with elastic retention, you can reload just as fast, if not faster, than people with those silly $50 specialty pouches.

Have you considered the Taco pouches?
They look effective and well suited for 1st line use.

HSGI Taco pouches is a great way to go.

We sell a ton of them, and get awesome reviews back.

I have experience with Raven Concealment products and have been using them before the entire Magpul craze.

Their pistol holsters (specifically their light compatible versions) are some of the best I have had the pleasure to use - period.

Their mag holders are also up to the same high quality - but they are molded with real-steel magazines and thus may not fit your airsoft mags correctly.

My AR15 mag holder did not fit well and thus I was forced to re-mold the mag holder using a hair dyer and slowly adjusting the fit which worked out great...

Now that RC's popularity has increased so much because of Magpul - I would not recommend waiting for their long turn around unless you are ordering one of their pistol light compatible holsters which is worth the wait.

Regarding a AR15 magazine holder - I would highly recommend the ITW Fast Mags Gen 3 (belt version). They work very well and securely retain your AR15 mags and are just as quick/easy to draw from when reloading.

What is nice about the Fast Mags also is that they are not molded directly around a specific AR15 magazine - so any mag will work/fit including USGI, PMAG, etc etc. That goes for airsoft magazines as well...

Hope that helps, all the best.

I've never had issues with my Eagle or Phantom pouches...and the flap has not been a practical issue (but I don't find I need to speed reload like Stallone from the Expendables).

I'm going to try a Taco next (inbound this weekend). Supposed to have good retention w/ smooth draw.

A flap for positive retention is comforting though...I can't help but feel that I'd loose a pistol/rifle mag with an open top.
* I've seen Milan's RC stuff...and the pistol mag holders hold A LOT of the mag...none of the "dainti-ness" amount like some other open top holders. I'd buy the RC pistol mag holders. Milan could confirm...but I think the double one takes up a lot of realestate side to side 'cause of the way it's moulded*

I would not go with many of the kydex M mags on the belt...a lot of them seem to hold the mag up really high. I'd probably bust a rib (probably be great for range use though). Don't know about using them on belt and then running a rig as well.

I tend to carry one or two fast mags (belt version) on my waist which are my first reloads.

I also wear a chest rig which carries my secondary reload AR15 mags. After using/reloading from my fast mag/s, I always top them off when I get a chance so I can reload from the belt first and goto my chest-rig second when needed.

Reloading from your belt/waist is always faster then reloading from a chest-rig.

What I do like a lot about the Emdom one is that you can adjust the height of the pouches, so you can go high, medium or low. Here's a picture with the Fastmag for reference, which to me seems quite high.

How do you find the Fastmags with the fact that you have to twist them to remove the mags? (referring to the Gen3)

I also placed a order from Raven concealment systems but after 14 weeks and nothing I got fed up and made my own.

Here are some of my last projects

PTW Pmag - RS Pmag

Only draw backs of the Raven style pouch's are that they are wide.

that is extremely accurate, I am switching all my pouches from single to double precisely for those reasons, plus it's lighter in the end.

You don't actually have to twist them to remove the mag (I run the gen 3's as well.) It does make it easier, though. I beercan grip my mags anyways, so as I draw the mag out of the pouch, I'm probably naturally twisting them anyways, hence, I don't notice any problems with it.

X2 what ILLusion said.

And I do not find the Fast Mags ride high at all - they are perfect if you ask me.

edit: you can also check out JMC Holsters:

http://www.jmcholsters.com/

I have their Charlie Model holster in coyote brown for my TM SIG P226.

They also carry mag holsters, etc.

ITS Tactical did a great review on JMC Holsters as well:
