Upgrade advice(97b)

Hey, I've got a real sword type 97b that I absolutely love and was hoping to put a little bit more love into her.

So far what I have is a stock type 97b and run a 7.4 and 11.1 lipo, with a modify s90 spring putting out 350fps. I have also switched to deans.

I am planning to get a modify s100, prometheus 6.03 tightbore(looking at the 455mm and cutting off whatever sticks out of my suppressor), and was looking at either a systema energy hop up rubber sleeve with a shredders concave spacer or the prometheus air seal packing soft type.

I also have been looking into mosfets, but with many mosfets specificaly designed for different versions of gearboxes I wasn't sure if they would function properly in my 97b.

Im looking for consistency and range, but if it is reccomended to do anything for durability/reliability or rof I will take it all into consideration

Anything else I should look into upgrading/replacing? Suggestions on what I plan to get? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Never cut a barrel unless you've got access to a machine shop with the proper equipment to re-crown the barrel.

I'd suggest a ARS hop-up rubber with a shredder's concave spacer.

It is possible to fit a Trigger Master into the full sized versions of these guns... but I'm not sure how easy it would be to put it inside the 97B...

I have cut metal piping/tubing for other hobbies and house maintanace/repair, I have pipe cutters and a dremel(probably use dremel over pipe cutter), bunch of bits and such, and am pretty confident I can cut, clean and square up the barrel without any performance degradation. Is the prommy worth the cost compared to say a madbull, especially if I plan to cut the barrel?

The foregrip of the 97b is hollow and should have enough room, is not that particular unit you referenced looks fairly flat and should fit in the body without issue, although greatter attention would need to be paid to ensure the additional wires are not pinched every time I put the 97b back togethor.
Looks like that unit is not version specific, so I beleive I would be safe to assume this would provide the protection and performance options I am looking for(already have low lipo alarm and voltage reader and a good fuse, but this should be much better)

any idea on the approximate amount of time/bb's that will degrade the performance of the bucking so that it requires replacement? I figure two should do, or would it be wise to stock more?

Any other suggestions? Thanks!

nothing really need to upgrade for RS guns, unless you don't feel comfortable if you don't change anyting in it then I would suggest change the hop up rubber. I 've been running my 97 with 11.1v lipo over 2 years and it never let me down, the internals are built like a tank!

I understand, Not a real need but I very much like the 97b and would like to see it perform at its best, not expecting worlds of difference but its enough. It also is a bit of a comfort/confidence thing, I like having the "best" stuff. I figure hopup and barrel are about the only thing that could be replaced and still call it upgrading. Debating on mosfet as I am happy with rof and with the precautionary measure I have taken to keep my baby safe and reliable.

I prefer using my 7.4 because its never good to press any mechanical device past what it was designed for, but its nice to have a larger spare battery that allows me to drop some mags quickly.

Why cut the barrel? Why not just buy one that's the right size?

Just figured I would try and make use off all the space I had, and the barrel lengths that are easiest to get ahold of are either a little shorter than my stock barrel, or just a couple cm too long for the 97b with suppresor. I can look into retailers in the states or elsewhere to find the perfect length, but I had thought that just cutting a barrel from a local retailer would be the most hassle free.

anyone get some experience running a battery case on 97/97b??

I feel like the right side of the frame might be a good place to fit battery case.

When Amos speaks, I'd advise you to listen, while at times I've had my differences with him, he knows his gunwork.

I ran a peq box attached with a string when I didn't have the proper battery for my 97b. Not very aesthetically pleasant, nor solid, but it worked. You could attach a rail on the left side if you want. I have seen ppl doing it.

well any 10.8 V should fit the PEQ, or you can actually attach the PEQ case down to the front rail I guess..

Why not just go with a lipo? I was able to fit an 11.1v 1100mAh in the grip without any problems, and. If you don't want to go with a high voltage a little 7.4 works fine as well. I think that would work better than working with a peq on an unstable mount. If you do go for a peq and have a 97 ask tank where he got his frontrails.
