VFC Scar Heavy Gearbox Problems.

So, if you've been following this area of the forums, you can see I'm making progress with my gun. For better or worse is still up for grabs tho.

Okay, so I managed to replace the spring wit ha 350fps and I got it all put back together. When I pull the trigger tho, the motor clicks and it doesn't pull the spring. When I loosen the motor door and pull the motor out, the motor spins up, so there are no wiring problems.

As well, it seems like the selector switch is correctly aligned as the tirger safety's properly and what not.

Anybody think they may know whats up, and have any info or diagrams on how to fix it? Keep in mind this is my first AEG, so pictures/diagrams are alot more helpful then naming parts as I don't know what they all are atm...im learning as I go.

Bad shimming job? Battery isn't powerful enough?

Its using a high torque motor...it was powerful enough to pull a 450 back should be fine on a 350.

Also, I havnt noticed anything that is shimmed, looks like the gearbox doesnt need to be?

So you're using the same battery that you used to pull the 450 spring? And it's charged up?
Also, every gearbox needs to be shimmed correctly (the gears).

Yah, the battery is charged up.

I don't know the positioning for the gears or the shims, for the vfc.

I also noticed that the black nozel that leads out of the spring no loger moves, with the 450 it moved back and forth slightly.

Ok, that means the nozzle isn't attached to the tappet plate and/or the tappet plate spring isn't set correctly.

Get someone who knows what they're doing to open it up again.

If you're patient and willing, you can do this yourself with a bit of help... It'll be worth the learning

When you put a gearbox back together, there are basically 4 springs to check that have external touchpoints:

1) trigger pull -- should be peppy and springy.
2) front nozzle - should be sticking all the way out but when you push it in it resists (strongly). When you let go it should pop all the way back out. Note that this test won't necessarily work if the gearbox has been cycled after re-assembly (and is sitting mid-cycle), so make sure you only trust this test immediately after re-assembly.
3) Selector plate spring. It should be present, and as you're moving the selector plate to and fro, it should be compressing and decompressing.
4) The safety lever at the front bottom corner of the trigger area of the gearbox. When you move it around it should pop back to position on its own.

Your gearbox sounds like it is failing test #2. Your nozzle might be not attached or perhaps the tappet plate spring is not attached, etc.

Open it up and make sure the nozzle is seated onto the end part of the tappet plate. Also make sure your tappet plate spring is attached. This will force the tappet plate fully forward. Make sure that your sector gear is in a position where the teeth are facing towards the south part of the gearbox but where the nub that grabs the tappet plate isn't pulling the tappet plate back (that would make it hard to put your gearbox back together).

Open up your gearbox and post a big fat high res picture here and we can give you some pointers.

Alright,

Also, I noticed that the tip of the plastic nozel where it meets the bb has a small chip in it. Will this effect the firing greatly? Should I just bring it back and have somone fix the gearbox and replace the nozel?

It will mostly create an air leak if it doesn't seal properly, thus inconsistent FPS.

The easy answer is "it depends". It could mean nothing, or it could break and take tappet plate or other parts with it, it could nick the BBs and they'd tear the rubber.

They're cheap, replace it. While you're waiting for the new one to arrive figure out the rest of the issues including why it got chipped.

VFC has self-shimming gears. First thing to check is to make sure your battery is charged. Make double sure. Then I can help you further.

Only one gear is self-shimming, and I also wouldn't trust that system as far as I can throw it.

motor just clicks but spins fine on it's own.. sounds like reversed polarity to me.

Two gears are self shimming, the other is set by the motor height. I've worked on 2 VFC's in the last week.

The sector and spur gears are self shimming. Bevel gear you gotta shim yourself.
