Jag Precision has recalled all stocks from dealers that remained on shelves due the legal suit brought by Cybergun. I'm not sure if CA dealers were also requested to return stock.

It's hard for me to recommend a gun of this level for a first gun. I have no experience with this particular gun but I do own a gun from Echo 1.
While an Echo 1 can be made into a decent gun what is required to do so is beyond most first time airsoft owners. These guns really require a spring change and a re-shim/grease before you use them. If it's anything like mine the compression is also horrible and could stand some attention. It's possible to have a gun doc do this work for you but it can be costly and take time. The other thing to consider is breakage. They're more likely to break on you than a better quality gun leaving you frustrated without a back-up. IMO you're better off getting something of higher quality that you can rely on while you introduce yourself to airsoft. **edit: If you like the SCAR I understand VFC makes a very nice one. It's a rebranded Dboys which was a clone of a Classic Army. Alright enough starter gun but looks like crap compared to the VFC version. Buy it if you can't ever afford a VFC and will settle for a airsoft gun that somewhat resembles a SCAR that never went into production.

I have 3,221 xp with this gun. 500 more and I unlock the holographic laser scope for it.
In all seriousness, basically what THe_Silencer and Kozzie said. Echo1 guns are pretty solid for the money, but generally need a bit of TLC to put them where the better quality brands are. I've seen the DBoys SCAR first hand and I was rather unimpressed personally.

Jag has also recalled all the VFC SCARS. Which is a little confusing becasue I thought VFC was licensed by Cybergun to produce the SCAR. If I'm wrong on this (about VFC being Licensed) then I stand corrected. Has none of the CA dealers been hit on this recall?

i think your wrong there, from what i know vfc has been licensed by fn their self and not a single one of their scars have been recalled.

This is from the Jag email dated January 24, 2012.
Now perhaps there is some difference between what Jag was selling (Vega Force MK16 and MK17) and what we are talking about here called SCARS? January 24, 2012 Dear JAG Precision Dealer, First and foremost we would like to apologize to all the JAG Precision dealers that we were not able to see at the SHOT Show 2012. As you may have heard there was a lawsuit and restraining order filed against JAG Precision. Although there were no products on display that were mentioned in the lawsuit in our booth, the NSSF and SHOT Show directors were led to believe there was, therefore closing our booth down for the remainder of the show. The lawsuit that has been filed names specifically the Echo1 ASC models (JP-29, JP-50, JP-44, and JP-45) Vega Force MK16 and MK17. We are requesting that if you have any inventory new in the box, purchased from JAG Precision, that you seize all sales on these items and return them to us. Please let us know the quantity of items that you will be returning and we will be issuing credit to your account, once the items are received at our facility. We also would like to take this opportunity to assure the dealers that we have this situation being handled by our legal counsel. If and when information may be disclosed, we will release the information. If you need any further information or have any questions, please contact your sales representative at JAG Precision. Thank you for your cooperation and continuous support. Sincerely, Maria Aguilar General Manager

I think you're getting VFC and Echo1 confused.

No I don't think I am. I posted above that VFC Mk16 and MK17 that ECHO1 were selling are have been recalled due to a legal suit over Complaint for Patent Infringement. To the best of my Knowledge these replicas were plainly marked as being mfg by VFC and Licensed by FN.
Maybe what I have failed to understand is that Jag faked the VFC trades and tried to pass them as being made by VFC but actual they were clones made elsewhere but please don't quote me on this as I just offer this as a guess and have no data. However, I don't think this was the case as I have seen a few of these and they do look like they came from the VFC factory.

ok thanks this is very good to hear. i had just sent an e-mail to vfc on the matter but, since you answered my question i won't have to worry about what the answer may be. also if anyone wants because they don't believe this or some other reason i could post the response i get from vfc.
