Choices for M4: VFC or KWA

Hey guys,

What your vote on these two guns. I currently have a G&P M4 - looking for another piece to bring to games if the G&P craps out.

VFC M4ES Quale - $499

KWA M4 SR7 - $499

Looking for something that is reliable - especially good internals.

Thanks in advance.

lol! Best analogy ever!

I'm actually interested in the KWA's internals as well, because I'm considering the KM4A1.

If the KWA has the 2GX gearbox, I would take that over VFC. But be sure to replace the metal piston head with a polycarbonate one before using. If you want a better looking gun, get the VFC. Replace the piston, check AOE and shimming if you want to have it running reliable.

Just worked on my first VFC AEG. Just a couple hours ago actually, installed tb barrel and Raptor FET. I was quite impressed with the gun overall. As ghost mentioned, piston was clear polycarbonate. He says replace, but you can get a few seasons out of a good polycarb piston with up to M120 spring. I was impressed at the tolerances. The gearbox went together as smoothly as any Marui I have ever worked on. Other Chinese gb's need tricks to hold pieces in place due to slackness in tolerances.

Yes, you can play a few season with the stock VFC piston, but be sure to check AOE, Shimming of bevel gear and do the premature engagement mod. I had 6 stock VFC all had stripped pistons at the same place. It was due to AOE and second last tooth wasn't removed. Now if you have the know how to do these fixes before using, get the VFC. If you don't KWA is better IMO.

KWA has their own set of issues, too. They are well built but they have problems.

Where (or maybe I should say "How") were all the pistons damaged, Ghost?

the last 3 teethes. Including the pick up tooth. On farther inspection, it was due to poor AOE. On some, the pick up teeth on the gear would pull the piston at an angle that was for sure to cause premature wear. And I was right as the next VFC M4 came in with the same issue. And 6 later, all had similar issue more or less.

I would say go with the KWA, because it comes stock with a very good tight bore barre, and a Firefly style bucking.

Have KWA M4 - What should I watch out for?

Hi Guys
I'm new to airsoft. Got the KWA kM4 SR7 about three weeks ago. Have shot it (targets) to sight in red dot sight and laser. Love it. Shoots great. I have also played with it and was very impressed with it. It was very accurate and I got a lot of hits. As you know, it came with a 450 spring that I immediately had downgraded to the standard 350 (I think). From what the gun tech was saying when he was working on it he seemed very impressed with the internals. He said it was the first time he had worked on one and was very impressed. Even called his boss over to have a look. What should I look out for? Anything I can do to ensure its longevity. One thing I found a little weird is that the hop-up seems to adjust backwards. It is supposed to turn forward (toward the tip of the barrel) to increase hop-up but when I did this it seemed to decrease it as the bb's would drop much quicker. Does this seem right?

Every VFC I've seen have the 2nd tooth removed. Strange that you've encountered 6 with full teeth.

All modern KWA AEGs come stock with a 2Gx gearbox, which is quite possibly THE strongest stock gearbox in the world right now. It can take a 16v 50c LiPo (I believe) for about 3 mid-cap mags before shredding. Even most high-grade, customized gearboxes can only take about 1-2 shots before it completely burns out. Not only that, but it comes with self-shimming gears, so it's perfectly shimmed out of the box.

So as of now, don't do anything to the internals, because it's going to last a long, LONG time.

Just a thought, but have you considered the Beta Project M4? It's 'Magpul'd' to buggery and back and it's cheaper
