Knee Pads

What do you guys recommend, what do you hate?

I'm looking for a pair, would like to hear some reviews, and warnings.

I hate neoprene knee pads/ cushiony non hard knee pads. Im not playing volleyball I want something to protect my knee in case I kneel on a stick or a funny shaped rock.

Ive been using blackhawk knee pads for years and have nothing negative to say about them. They are inexpensive, durable and come in a assorted colors.

If you prefer something low profile with extra coverage for the lower knee and don't mind spending the extra money I'd go for it. It is Arc'teryx so its top drawer as always.

I've ran with a few different knee pads over the years. I had an accident that turned my patella (knee cap) into a donut, so am acutely aware of the quality of knee pads. Because of my unique requirements, I have never tried just the foam insert style.

If you're looking for something cheap that really works... Go Alta. For the price point you cannot beat them, they're durable and if you mess around with making them fit you, they stay up very well. They provide a great deal of coverage and distribute the shock of taking a knee very well; due to their larger size they're also comfortable for longer periods of time when you're on your knees.

If you're looking at something that price is less important... Arc'teryx. Very comfortable, very breathable. These are the best knee pads for breathing that are still hard & effective. My personal gripe would be to have the straps just a little bit longer (like 1.5 cm longer), but I have scottish caber tossing legs (not that I toss cabers).

In my opinion, most of the others out there are either knock offs (different enough to prevent IP law suits) or less refined implementations of the two above. Again, remember I haven't tried pure foam in the pants style, so your milage may vary. If you're at all sticker shocked or debating, just go for the Alta, it'll buy you the time to figure out what you really need, and they're great for lending to a friend that you're trying to get into airsoft.

The only knee pads I've tried were alta knock offs which became ankle decorations pretty quickly

I fucking love Crye integrated kneepads.



And as you can see, wearing them gives you badass +70, coolness +50 and highspeed x2

Borrow a set of Crye pants (or repros) from a friend, get the BDU you want, bring both to a local seamstress, add a bit of money to the mix... AND VOILÀ!

R3CON1 here in Quebec did that. And he added an UnderArmor-type t-shirt to that combo (for the stretch material), and got out with awesomely done set of "Crye" DPM pants

I'm still using my Hatch knee pads even though they are 13 years old and pretty much worn out. I will swich them for Arc'Teryx knee caps.
