Setting up coms
So I just purchased the Puxing 888k with the cable and what not.
Im looking for info on a system to set up a reliable and comfortable comms system. I need a pouch that will fit the Puxing snug, and a PTT earpeice that is compatible. So far ive looked at the Condor one :http://www.warfightertactical.com/condor-radio-pouch It seems okay, and is a decent price. I have no idea about PTT earpieces, as I would have to know...where is the most common place to mount your radio on your tac vest? Running a wire would be another issue. Should I go with a throat mic or a standard? I personally think throat mics are better, but they are much more expensive for quality. So what im asking is, what are some typical comms setups?

The condor pouch would work perfectly. The Puxing is nice because you have a nice little chinese girl telling you what channel you're on ect so you don't really need to look at the actual display most of the time.
For headset: Z-tactical from ebay banned. Get a PTT and a bowman and you'll be set. I spent over $150 on cavalvy it lasted me 2 games and it was toast. The plugs are proprietary as well so you'll be stuck buy the same crap again and again.

Like skeleton said...a plain and simple cop mike (hand mike) really works well. Buy a real one...the Chinese clones are so so in comparison. And many of them have an earpiece jack if you want to run a flex coil earpiece. Very cost affordable, very simple, works.
Not the most uber tactical elite...so if that's more important then there are a lot of other options. I keep it where I can get to the volume and channels. A proper pouch is best....I had it stuffed in a mag pouch last time and dropped it, it ended up in a pocket for the rest of the game. Last edited by m102404; July 10th, 2012 at 23:32.. |

Cavalvy is a maker of head sets. I don't know what a calvary head set is... Cavalvy have the seal or the bowman etc. Tech direct sells them in country. +1 to the cop hand mike. I have one as a back up and it's really good unless you need to be quiet.

Obviously that was a typo, I apologize for not proof-reading.
What kind of pin does the headset need to be for the Puxing PX-888K? |

I vouch for Techseller from Tecnology Direct.
I bought a Cavalvy headset compatible with my Woxun and it work flawlessly. Make sure you get the "real" cavalvy and not the repro cavalvy.

Find out what you like best. Wether it be headset, or a cop mic on your shoulder or chest, somewhere easily reached. Only way you find these out, is to go through the options in a game, not in front of your mirror at home. I have tried all, from a headset, earpeice mic, throat mic, ect.
Best setup for me personally is a combo of a cop mic, and an acoustic earpiece for listening. Now, Tys above brought up a good point, one that I realized, cop mics allow you to plug in an earpeice, but into the mic itself, which can be a pain. I disliked having those 2 pinned together, so I went and made my own set up. Consists of a cop mic, and acoustic earpeice, both on their own seperate wires. Keeps things comfortable, and offers the option of talking on the mic or handing it off, without losing hearing. I went a step further, and soldered in a button into the mic itself, cutting off the speaker part of the mic. I can turn it on when I dont have the earpeice in, or turn it off when I need to be quiet but still listen in, and be able to talk. As for where the radio should be, its been said and I +1 it, put it somewhere you can reach easy. Non gun side, below your ribs on a vest works. Easy to get at and adjust. If its off to the side of your torso, the antenna wont jab you. Good luck.

That's the catch it was real Cavalvy from techseller. I'm still bitter about it! ;-)

Those Cavalvy dont fit my current head gear. Plus I find them to be chunky.
Im looking for something smaller, an earpiece mike like an earbud with a mic (like a boom mic) that I can run under my face mask. Mic similar to the Cavalvy, but instead of the huge earpiece something smaller like an ear bud. Does anyone know of anything that matches that description? I needs a PTT. Any good throat mic brands I should check out? Im running a full face mask that I have had no problems with, so a mic that is outside the mask would be very muffled for anyone trying to hear me. This is why I was thinking a throat mic.

a mic inside your facemask will be muffled since its so close...and finding a boom mic/ear bud combo will cost a good chunk unless you downgrade which will equal a lot of angry people on the other end of you. I would swap to a mesh mask if you want full face and go with the tasc or bowman style...i know you say they are chunky, but they work best along with the PTT you want.

Well wouldn't the muffle be eliminated with a throat mic?

It would be worse. unless you get a high end Real steel mic
Rage value is high when someone tries to use one of those on the net. They really don't work or at least they're not set up properly.

Throat mics work great if you speak clearly and loudly.
If you're trying to whisper so you don't give away your location its not so good.
