Silencer and barrel experiment on TM1911
Hey guys. So today I was bored and finally got the motivation to go and make something. I thought I would go ahead and share this with you.
The barrel started as a spare I had from an old AK74u. I cut, ground, and sanded my way to get it to work on this. I then went ahead and cut some slits into it to let excess gas escape. Then I started on the actual silencer. I decided I wanted full metal and foam filled, no plastic or anything else that has a higher chance of breaking on me. The goal was to come out with a more accurate, and quieter gun which I can hit further shots with. Unfortunately by the time I was done getting it all together, it was already dark out. I was able to get a few shots off, and I can say that its noticeably more silent. Tomorrow I'll get to finding out if the longer barrel has a positive or negative effect on range and accuracy. For now, all that's left is a fancy new paintjob |

How did you deburr the inside of the barrel after cutting slits in it?
It looks pretty damn good, but I would be concerned about cycling issues since there is not a big heavy weight on the barrel. That could affect the barrel tilt and cause jams. Other than that it looks great. Thanks for sharing. |

I drilled out the barrel to 6.3mm, 2mm past the last slit and then polished it all. I shot about 3 mags through it today, and I'm more than happy with the accuracy. It's a lot more consistant in it's shots now.
As for cycling issues, it was something I was worried about when I started, although I haven't had an issue with it yet. My guess is because it mounts onto the actual barrel rather than the outer barrel, giving it that little bit of extra support. Only time will tell. |
