This is why you need lens protection (optic/flashlight)

This is a great post, and even better reason why everyone should buy a killflash if they seriously consider running an expensive optic. $24 to protect your $800 dollar investment. Sounds stupid not to!
Though I bet there will be some cheap ass out there that wont spend the money. |

I'd figure that for 800$ a plastic BB wouldnt break your sight, but what do I know. =S Extra protection never hurts.

You'll be surprise regardless if it is $50 eotech clone or $800 optic, people have are hard time spending $24 to protect it. They would rather complain after it got shot out.
My friend got his Contour Plus front lens shot out by a lucky sniper hit. The actual lens is behind the front lens was damaged from the shars and Contour has told him that the warranty does not cover projectile hits. He went out and got a new Contour and still refuse to buy a protective shield for it. Go figure. By the way, he does not wear head or face protection either and has a missing tooth. Usually people running an optic like that are being shot at by real bullets, so it wouldn't matter if you had a lens protector or your lens got shot out.

Haha, yeah, that's why I wasn't 100% sure if it'd protect from a BB.

Real optic lenses or quality replica lenses stand well to BBs due to their curved glass surface.
A killflash is still very usefull.

I personally use the TASCO Reddot, and it's taken BBs to it (I can see the kinda smudges where they hit) without any damage at all =S. I believe the front lense is curved.

hell I'd still spend 20 to save an 80$ optic. It's not just the replacement of the shitty optic, is your time without one when you have to order one or have to go out to a store and get one. It's the rest of a game you have to finish etc... It makes sense... if you take 1 shot in the optic protector, that's already money well spent.

I did on my broken replica aimpoint M4 http://www.ebairsoft.com/scope-green-p-1231.html (If you have a replica M4 chances are it is the same brand as this. It has been rebrand by various seller) Point blank PTW on a black cylinder (Sub 1J) It shatter the lens to hundreds of pieces. The gun shot that my Aimpoint ARD (killflash) was shooting around 370fps distance of about 15 feet. Long story short, save your investment, get lens protection. |

A direct shot is enough to put a crack in it, enough to remove nitrogen purge which in turn, long term, allows humidity in the optic. My Aimpoint has a killflash, and it's worth it (5% the cost of the optic.) Note: If you're far away from the shooter, most of the kinetic energy is lost from the BB, many of the shots protected by killflash are from close engagements.

All my rifle scopes have survived direct hit to the front element (front lense).
No scratch. Sometime a BB smudge that wipe off. Granted they where not point blank shots, but at those range, maybe something is very wrong already with the game. I run Bushnells scopes. If your lense has a curve, it has good chances. Eotec and other devices that just have a window and not a lense... I agree.

So because you've never been engaged at the ranges to break a lens, you would recommend players not invest in the minimum to protect their optic investment?
Because you have never lost a tooth to a BB, you would recommend players not where mouth protection? |

No. I'm just saying that players need to know that certain type of optic don't need it for protection. It's like when a sale clerk want to sell you an extended warrenty. Some items don't require it, others it might be interesting. The buying need to know his options.
I would recommend a killflash to anyone for the tactical purpose only. I've been playing for close to 10 years and never had any equipment broken by a BB yet.
