Storing your gear for the winter

Last game of 2012 for me yesterday, was storing my gear today and here are a few tips for long term storage:

Aeg:
Disconnect battery
Clean it up
Hop Up at the lowest position
Couple of shot in semi to decompress the spring

Gbb:
Fill up and silicone lube the mags
Hop up at the lowest
Clean it up and silicone lube

Your gear will be in good shape for 2013 season

Take out all the batteries. Radios, PEQ boxes, red dots and other optics, flashlights and anything else. That way the won't discharge and corrode the contacts.

Wash out your camelback or water bag/canteens.

I store the guns and other metal gear etc. with those little silica gels that come with everything.

"Desiccant packs". This is a great idea. Make sure to add one to any bio BBs you may have. If you are truly concerned, you can buy specialized packs for metal parts as well.

- Unload "all" your magazines of BBs.
- Keep propane/gas in your GBB, GBBR, or NBB magazines.
- Hang up all your gear, or fold it neatly and place it into Rubbermaid bins.
- Make a list for what needs to be replaced before next year.

Just not the part about the hop up...

Least pressure or force exerted on the rubber, I'd imagine.

If you leave your hopup engaged, the rubber weakens and/or deforms over time. You'll wear it out and get less effect. Just easier to turn the hop down until you plan to shoot it again.

I'm not so sure on that last point... You guys don't set your hops to 0 between games do you? The game season is longer than the off season, so if you store your guns with hopups preset, you're holding their form out of shape longer than you are than the off season.

I'm skeptical about that one. All the rest is practical maintenance.

Clean your barrels too if you get the chance... all sorts of garbage ends up in it over the season.

It may depend on the hop-up system you have, but I agree that you'd want to back it off; less pressure on it while its being stored. During the regular season you should be backing it off once and awhile for cleaning, replacement, etc. It also may depend on how much you play, but general care and maintenance is very important.

Disconnecting your battery is a good idea between ALL games. If not for remembering to charge your battery, or saving your battery if you run something like a MOSFET, then it's even just good as a safety measure so you don't get a scare or possible flying BB if you accidentally pull the trigger.

and don't store your airsoft too deep in the storage space so that you can get a change to fondle it and do some chairsofting every once in a while during the winter.

I would have thought that people work on their guns during the winter months or play indoor CQB games.

Oh crap.
I forget to remove the battery from one of my gun, and I already put them in the bottom of the storage box... Will have to dig them out sometime.

Do it sooner than later. Unplug and store away from the gun. Prevent any battery that wants to leak from leaking inside your gun.

People store their guns for the winter? Work on them in the winter? I'm doing something wrong then as I keep them available to play outdoors!
