Neopryne Mask
I'm looking into full face mask solutions, because taking a shot in the mouth just isn't an option for me (Any way you think about that)
I'm used to the mesh masks rented out by the place here in winnipeg, and considering the sweat buildup in those, I can't imagine a facemask with lense not fogging up on me. However most mesh mask solutions look... kinda dumb. I did see this mask on red wolf however... King Arms Neoprene Mask - BLACK (Full) I was thinking, with something like that to take care of my face, I could just get normal goggles of some sort which would nuke my fogging issue, while still giving me good face protection. Plus I'm sure a little creative touch could make that mask quite forboding. Has anyone used a mask like this? If so, what are your thoughts.

Looks like it would be hot in the summer. It does say it's breathable, but still I think it would be a bit hot under the summer sun. Maybe that's just me though. Would help keep you warm in winter though. As for protection, it would probably do the job. I mean one layer of clothing will protect you from bleeders atleast (unless someone has an incredibly hot gun), so that should work to protect you. I remember Wil used to have a small piece of camo clothe attached to his goggles to protect his mouth area.

there's a member here RPC28 who showed me a similar mask, though much thinner looking , basically a balaclava made with , I cant remember what. However the material is supposed to keep you cool, and draws the sweat away from your face etc. The result is no fogging up in your goggles etc. He is a rep for the product so you might want to contact him for more specific info. I believe it costs $29. He also sells shirts made with the same material. Sorry I cant be more specific, he was showing me these products at the last game at Dragon Ops.
Anyway the balaclave would offer you some protection for your mouth etc. cheers

Sounds interesting, I'll send him a PM about that style mask. However, while wearing a long sleeve shirt usually stops bleeders on my arms, thats because they're baggy, and will absorb the impact. A balaclava tight to my face won't do any good, and I've heard alot of statements to that effect.
**EDIT** I took a look through that guys posts, because I figure he would have had a sale post for them, and he did. They're just fancy balaclavas, not actually a mask of any kind. They would offer no more protection that a regular balaclava.

if you're more worried about the odd round in the face more than the consistant "wetsuit in a sauna" effect than go for it. anything in front of your face will hinder your breathing to an extent. the neoprene will take most of hte stiing out of a head shot but your heat factor is gonna go up like crazy. bleeders heal pretty quickly and yoru major worries about open face would be your teeth which can be easily protected by your lips. the sting goes away pretty quick. depending on who i'm playing with dictates what style of head gear i wear. certain groups warrant full mask, others goggle. base it on your style of play too...closer engagement ranges vs. slow and steady longer range fights.
personally i'll usually choose air and keep my mouth shut. the rest will heal. |

Well, I'm taking into consideration the following circumstances, and I think you'll agree with my assesment.
I play at an indoors arena here in winnipeg. Its not air conditioned, so its just as hot if not hotter than playing outdoors due to high humidity and no air flow. The CQB action is always heavy and intense; I can be wearing a full mesh mask and and still be pouring sweat. The majority of kills are at approximatly 10 meters or less, and since the arena is open to anyone to come and play, theres always some jackass who's been playing too much counterstrike and feels that headshots are the way to go. Due to it being an "urban" environment with plenty of furniture and obsticals, sticking your face out or over to take a peak often leaves that the only part of your body for the opposition to shoot at. Playing circumstances aside, my job also requires me to deal with the public face to face every day, and showing up looking like I contracted the pox isn't good for business. Also, having you're own equipment is always a plus, so I'm not restricted to just playing at one indoor field. And since all the rental masks are identical, something like this is kinda unique

Neoprene mask
Being a diver, I know that neoprene gets really hot when it's not being worn in the water. You could try getting something like a Nomex hood to wear, thinner material, but would still offer some protection. Another thing may be a dust scarf like those worn in The Gulf.

Does XT even allow you to wear your own mask?
You should make sure with Gord that he'll allow you to wear anything you're considering before you buy it. From your XT forum thread, I assumed you wanted something for just outdoors. I believe that they'll allow both types of Sansei masks (they rent them out) and most paintball masks that are considered acceptable for airsoft. Once you have a mask though, you need eye protection, what were you planning to wear over the mask? I doubt they'd allow safety glasses in there, too much liability. I'm not trying to be difficult (I actually happened across the very same mask you're looking at ages ago and was looking into getting one for outdoors, but lost the link :P), but it's always good to consider as many options as you can, right? Cya at XT some time.

This mask is out of the running, the material is just wrong I guess. I'll save my money for now.
Unless anyone wants to try taking a crack at replaceing a paintball mask lense with a mesh that'll stand up. You make it work, and I'll buy one

Just add a zipper to the mouth opening and you are ready for BDSM
