GBBR Noob Question

So I'm looking at getting a GBBR and I have been finding guns at a wide range of pricing... Why are some GBBR's 300 and others that look the same 600? Usually the description doesn't offer much about the internals either. So what should I be looking for when buying a GBBR?

simple answer is Quality.. but the answer is not always simple..

there are a lot of threads here about the varous makes and models of GBBRs do your research and you will find what you need.

As a new player, I HIGHLY recommend you start with a quality AEG. GBBRs are cool, but they're "finicky", and as Brian has said they're not cheap to kit out. You can do a full, decent AEG kit for $500-$600 right now; for a GBBR you're looking at around $1,000.

A good reliable AEG is still the better choice for BS-free skirmishing.

It's the same in almost any other hobby... You get what you pay for.

It's like buying a $300 basic computer as opposed to a $600 mid-level computer but putting both in a black case. On the cheap one, you can check email, YouTube, create documents, and maybe even watch a DVD. On the other, you can do some decent gaming, watch an HD movie, and maybe even edit a movie.

Although they both might have black cases, the more expensive one might be more durable, or look nicer. The $300 computer might use cheap components that will burn out in a few years.

Same goes for airsoft; although they are the same model of rifle, some might have features that other doesn't. These features might improve durability, make disassembly easier, make the rifle shoot more realistically, improve gas efficiency, etc.

Since disposable income is something you stressed in your other thread I would not recommend a GBBR. A brand new or well-maintained used AEG would suit you better.

By the way, in the future, you should consolidate your questions of gas guns into one thread.

Try a KWA MP7. The mags don't leak and overall it's a pretty trouble free package.

It's not a rifle exactly but it's got a long reach.

Cons are the magazines are more expensive than some other gas options and pouches to carry them in can be harder to find.

still looking at a 600$+ pricetag... 300~ for the gun... 3 more 40 round mags are 200$ Add in tax and shipping...

Now you have to get a sling that will fit it maybe, and or a holster and pouches.

$600 is not a bad step off point, I paid $600 for my first MP7.. and $50 a mag I had $1000 into the gun by the time I was done...

any single point will fit it

mp7 mags fit fine in single M4 pouches

Also, for any new player insisting on getting a GBBR as a first rifle, research the brand/model you are interested in well before considering buying it. Be cautious if buying one used as GBBR's are definitely "finicky" regardless of the upgrades the previous owner threw at it.

Example, a buddy and I had virtually the same WE PDW with similar upgrades and parts. His double fed (and chopped I believe) all the time, mine just spits away the bolt release pin whenever I track down a new one because I forget to crazy glue the damn thing in place. lol

So does this forum have good consumer use content? I wont be led astray by doing research here? Or is there a better place to do this research?

it's best to get as wide an array of research you can get... but that applies to any research... asc is a reasonable cross section of canada, there's other large player bases out there in the US and UK that you can also draw from. Knowing your climate and the reviewer's game climate is important, as is what season they play in, in or outdoors, their overall experience prior to owning the gun if you can get it, maybe it's their first gbb/aeg or gun of that type and they have no idea how to take care of it or use it.

The problem with your question is that it's like looking for cars and asking "why does this car cost 20k and this car costs 40k, they look kinda the same". There are obvious differences in quality, features, and life of the gun.

If you are going to get a GBBR, think about the availability of upgrade/replacement parts. Most likely, you are going to have to replace parts such as the trigger group, hammer, bolt, nozzle, bolt carrier, etc.

WE is a great platform because of the availability of parts IN country. You won't have to spend much time or money to get your hands on quality parts.

WA has very few parts, you will end up having to order from outside the country. Shipping costs can get quite high, of the $1000 I just spent on parts, I think I spent around $100-120 in just shipping. Duties on top of that will only add more.

GBBR is very popular in Taiwan so there are a lot of resources and reviews on Taiwan websites/forums... Oh wait, their reviews are in Chinese, plus they have very different climate...
