Overall for outdoor play, black vest stand out.
You ask what colour is the best to wear, it depends on the field you play at. Is it mainly an urban setup or heavy brush? The easiest way is just go either with Tan or Green setup. Since most major games are split that way. i find you want to save money in the long run, get yourself a decent vest in a solid colour. that way, if you decide to change what bdu you wear, you can use the same vest/chest rig. As long as you stay with the same type green/tan camo. for example, if you got an OD vest, you can swap between cadpad, woodland, flora, and any other green type patterns. It sometimes doesn't match very well but its better than having a woodland vest and wearing a cadpad bdu. I use a OD vest with Cadpad bdu. My main field, TFS, is very heavy brush so greens work very well in it. But its also so heavy that any colour works decent. But in the end, its airsoft. part of the reason why we play it is the kits are sweet and they looks great. Its what you want your setup to look like at the end of the day.

Be Original.... Go just in your underwear.... or better yet Buck
Black stands out like a sore thumb despite what you think you see Black does not occur naturally in nature.. Black works for swat and stuff because they are urban... unless you wear brick wall camo or Hallway camo black is best for urban tactics in the bush there is no black... dirt is not black nothing is black... the best camo i have ever used was Swedish M90... at claybank I walked 20 feet away from a few of my team they took up vantage points in a makeshift building. they were talking to me I walked 20 feet away into a bush they turned to look for me and I was gone.... they were calling out my name then I turned around and waved and they finally saw me Flecktarn works great as well....and tropentarn in the spring and fall works good too.. |

Like others have said it all depends on season and where you are playing. Black is probably one of the worst colours as it just makes you a big silhouette. Multicam is pretty popular right now as it is current US army issue but I wouldnt say it's my colour of choice for Canada or at least Southern Ontario where I am from. I like to go with more darker green such as the Cadpat, Olive Drab and so on. I like to wear British Woodland BDU (similar to old US woodland) and my vest is Coyote Brown(goes with pretty much anything)
Just speculating but I think the US went with the multicam because the wars they are in focus mainly on urban environments. To me the multicam is too tan for our environment so i go with the darker greens especially in summer months. Multicam does work well though inearly spring and late fall. Just stay away from black! |

Solid colour gear is much more flexible. Picking camo gear could prove a bad decision if you ever chose to have different BDU's. Black gear is not very effective at blending in natural environments.
Commonly, people will have both green and tan based BDU's. This will determine what side you're on at most milsim games. The colour of the BDU decides the team, your gear has no bearing. IMO your best bet is to go with either a solid tan or solid green molle rig and use a mix of both green and tan pouches to break up the solid blob of colour. This will also make your gear "compatible" with either green or tan based BDU's. Last edited by Kozzie; December 8th, 2012 at 14:08.. |

FAQ RAWDON 28-04-2012 - YouTube
This is one of my headcam videos from this year. Had really high winds that day hehe. Skip to 7:17 You will notice how black can stand out. Unless you intend to play inside often, it's not a good idea to wear black and having camo inside usually wont save your ass anyway since people are too close so wether it's urban camo subdued or whatever, you see them anyway. |

I don't know what it is with black tactical vests but every new player has to buy one. I know I did and then two months later regretted it.
I would concur with the others advice to go with a plain green or brown but then I would be a hypocrite seeing as I just have to collect load outs that match my uniforms. Half the fun for me is finishing an impression. My latest load carrying gear is Swedish M90 vehicle operation vest, a Polish Pantera rig and I'm working on a British MTP setup. So my best advice would be to buy what you love to collect if your so inclined but what ever you do don't buy a crossdraw vest. |

Well it seems out of everyone here I run BLACK gear, and I've been using practically the same stuff since I started 2 years along with a patterned BDU (in JSDF, PCU, or Woodland).
So pretty much my vest, helmet, pouches, sling, gloves, boots, knee pads, etc are all black. Sure I stick out like a sore thumb but I mean its easy to spot any human figure in an environment quite easily especially if they are firing shots off towards your direction; not matter what camo you wear. Unless you are completely keeping still, have painted your gun to match the environment and/or are wearing a ghillie suit, then it be a whole lot harder to spot someone. Anyways I choose to use Black gear though is because I guess I do more of a swat loadout than a military based one. However I do advise to stay away from an all black loadout, unless you plan on doing a police/swat loadout, if not just stick with a tan or green based camo. |

I started with OD vest and Cadpat BDU
And yes black is bad, OD or CB works well indoors too
