Do I have to dry-fire my AEG during motor height adjustment?
I ordered a new pistol grip (a black Magpul PTS MOE grip) to replace the original pistol grip on my CA M15A4 Sportline Rifle. Now my question is, after I install my new pistol grip, do I have to dry-fire the gun while I'm adjusting the motor height?
All the videos I've watched on YouTube in regards to motor height adjustment have the AEG unloaded and dry-fired during the adjustment of the motor, which I totally understand why. However, I'm concerned that the number of times I'd have to dry-fire my gun like that would be bad for my mechbox. Is it okay to dry-fire the AEG for motor height adjustment, or can I have it loaded with BBs and adjust the motor height in my basement airsoft range, with the muzzle pointed towards a target downrange and away from me?

You're going to be fine with the amount of dry firing needed to set the motor.
Of course wear eye protection. Before you put the end plate on push the motor up with your thumb and test the height. Then put the plate on and adjust till you get the same sound. Doing it with your thumb first will save you time/dry firing.

Dry firing a little should not damage the weapon, as the change in pressure is not significant enough (but exists). However, you should not dry fire A LOT, just like you would not fire the gun loaded A LOT at once.
Dry firing all the time may shorten the life of the rifle, but doing it a little is not harmful, in a way that firing with or without a bb uses the component, so it's not the dry firing itself that will kill your gun. I hope I'm clear (and not mistaken). |

Its the lack of pressure in the barrel that the bb creates that leads to cracked gearboxes (especially on version 2 boxes) the pressure created by the bb slows down the piston causing it to impact the cylender head more softly. A few dozen rounds wont kill the mechbox. If u can do it in yer firing range with bbs in the gun it is beter but u wont kill the gun so quickly if u dont fire off hundreds of blank shots tryin to adjust.

Dry firing is not an issue you should really be worried about.

The dry firing issue is when you sit down with your AEG to watch Blackhawk Down and join in for all the firefights.

In excess it definately is.
Madmax has been doing some testing that shows a significant increase in impact at the cylender head when dry firing. I cant seem to find where he was sayin it, it was in a random thread and sort of just came up i thought he said he was eventually going to post data when he finnished the testing. Wait i find some disscusion about it here. http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=18038 Quote:

Exactly. He won't be doing it to excess so it's not something he should be worried about. Not to mention the fact that you HAVE to dry fire to adjust motor height.

impact heavier at the cylinderhead when dry firing?
install sorbo. sorbo is sorboest sorboing sorbo. It will sorbo away your non sorboing sorbo to help facilitate sorboing to increase rate of sorbo and prolong the sorbo to its sorboest.
