What soldering iron do you use?
I've been using one from Canadian Tire and last night i just had enough of this shit and flipped - it was your standard 19.99$ with no stand and a curly ass cord that likes to wind around on its own.
I'm currently looking at some on ebay with temperature controls and stands that just make work a lot easier. Not looking to burn a hole in the wallet - but im really just tired of trying to work with budget shit. Any recommendations? |

40w Weller... just make sure your solder has flux, or buy flux for your shit solder. My tip is starting to go, common with all irons.

Butane powered cordless 90% of the time, 90w digital control solder station the rest. I like the butane more. Hotter faster quicker...

I use the Benzomatic one from CT.
Ain't nobody got time to wait for a soldering iron to heat up. Works great on rapidly shrinking heatshrink too. |

80W adjustable from Radioshack for batteries/large wire (12ga+)
35W cheap crap that melts (seriously, I forgot it plugged for 30 minutes and the plastic handle was soft) for general wires 45W Weller's for electronics (gets hotter, quicker not to induce heat in the components... gotta be careful not to burn stuff though) |

Hakko
Quote:
all those $20 and less ones are poor and heat things up much to much! never use a $20 one to build a battery pack, it will over heat the battery and cause internal damage! the hakko heats very high very quick so you have to touch the solder point for 3sec only! |

I just checked - I was using some 25w doo doo $14.99 shit from Canadian Tire.
However. Magically I stopped using Canadian Tires horse shit Bernzomatic Rosin Core Solder and switched to The Source's Nexxtech Rosin Core Solder for PC Work and everything was eezy breezy beautiful cover girl. I'm still going to get a new iron though or at least a stand - I burned my thumb so badly last night my skin cooked and turned a light brown. Last edited by Rabbit; May 22nd, 2013 at 10:00.. |
