Most Reliable AEG
Hello ASC,
I have had terrible luck with guns breaking, or malfunctioning in very strange ways. I have an Ares G36 (not too much of a surprise it's had issues), but my LCT Ak74 has had selector issues that defy the rules of time and space. I have replaced all the selector parts, fiddled with the stupid thing dozens of times, and for the life of me, the selector will not function the way it's suppossed to. But I digress. I want to know, what have been your most reliable guns?

I know you're not a fan of ARs, but I've had tremendous success in terms of consistency, reliability and durability with anything OEM'd by VFC - specifically the Knights series, HK416C, Socom Gear Daniel Defense series.
Besides that, bone-stock Tokyo Marui's - G36s, SR16s, MP5s. Most everything else has broken down fairly consistently. I would imagine the most reliable AEG not OEM'd are probably the ones you build, test and tune from the ground up. I learned that fairly early on. |

I own many AEG's, but the only one that has NEVER given me a problem is my G&P Stoner. I have put countless rounds through it without a single issue. All I have had to do over the last 3 years is adjust the hop up a couple times. She's a tank!

Are you the one physically doing the replacing and fiddling? If you can't get it to work, take it to a gun doc.

The AK selector is a bit finicky in my opinion but if all the gears are lined up in the right way, semi gets semi, full auto gets full auto.
ares G36 is one of the worst guns to buy in terms of reliablity. They where expensive as hell and extremely easy to break only plus was the quick spring. If you are looking for a cheapie tank gun I recommend the JG G36. for some odd reason, that gun is tank as hell and still survives my " death touch " at games. ask ViraL about my " death touch " if you havent already heard about it LOL |

Did you by any chance change the selector gear or trigger lock lever with one that is not LCT brand? |

I've had great luck with all 3 G&P M4's I've owned, also really liking my new VFC, thing seems unstoppable and if reviews are right should last me for ages without issue.
I had a JG G36 and had several parts break on it. Mostly plastic parts that weren't terribly hard to replace but it was not such a tank for me... |

I'm a firm believer that any AEG brand can work very reliably when the proper parts have been replaced and your gundoc work is on point.
I'm tricking out a CYMA AK right now. I love the sleeper AEGs. I'd double and triple check your gundoc work as stated from Kingsix & Coach (and whoever else said the same). Last edited by Rabbit; October 9th, 2013 at 14:01.. |

Rabbit is correct.
Stock aeg's being reliable is a shot in the dark. Some last 4 years some last 4 minutes. Most Important thing is having a good gunsmith that knows what they're doing. Ive built a dozen fully upgraded guns that went strong for years. My own 249 didnt have a single mechbox failure in 5 years, still hasnt. The motor got so dirty it stopped working and I had some box mag troubles but never a mechbox failure. Just put good parts in and rebuild it right. Having a good base helps but its not always critical for reliability. |

Stock TM gearbox do not open it for any reason till it stops working, which from the ones I have are still going strong 10+ years later. Bone Stock virgin gearboxes, just upgraded my barrels/externals.

So for your two selected types of AEG.
G36 = TM AK74 = TM/VFC Other types may yield other brands. If you wanted an AK47 with Chicom dress the Real Sword will come up. If you want a M4 then a half dozen choices will present themselves.

TM AK-74 EBB is really out there, screws everywhere! Non standard mechbox, magazine, stock etc.
Upgrading to 400fps on .2s is pretty much impossible currently. VFC is good, correct number of external screws, correct selector markings, correct trades,Rivets in the right place. They forgot to add vent holes on the handguard :/ but that's really minor issue. Dboys is a good compromise as long as you are willing to ditch the crappy mechbox and hopup chamber+rubber. And can stand the weird paint that ages well with use. A new company called E&L has some promising Full steel Aks in the near future. http://www.popularairsoft.com/news/a...k-aegs-preview |
