How do you secure touch switches for lasers/light?
Im interested in hearing how you guys secure touch switches for lasers or flash lights onto either the body or your vertical grip.
I've heard some people use velcro. If so, where did you buy your velcro tape? Is there a problem with velcro tape over time, i.e. the tape slips and leaves a sticky layer behind (or when you want to remove it it will leave the sticky layer also)? I've seen some people have these mesh or elastic tuby things where they basically wrap the switch on their vertical grip. Similar to the stuff people wrap tennis rackets with I guess? Exactly what product do you use for this? Any other methods? I assume nobody uses permanent methods like epoxy or superglue. I assume nobody machined some kind of fixture to mechanically secure the switch. right? |

Some brand like tangodown makes rail rover and vertical grip with some kind of "pocket" to put the switch in

I use velcro. They sell strips that are the perfect size at walmart- and it's in 5ft increments, so you have plenty. Use a little bit of superglue when attaching the hook/loop ends of the velcro, and you'll have no problems. I've never had it once fail me.

rubber bands, electrical tape, velcro or a combination of the three.
But, for using electrical tape when there's not electricity, I now use magic wrap from CT. |

It depends where you mount the switch, which depends how you hold your gun.
I personally dislike mounting switches directly on a grip since its too easy to hit it by accident or if you try shooting off handed; my preference is mounting it on the rail, more specifically between two rails (wedged in). All you need is for it to not fall out/move around, so elastic bands or paracord will suffice and make it easy to move if needed. For my M300A Mini Scout Light (repro) I can slide it under the edges of the rail covers from the front, so I dont even need anything to keep it in place. Its on the top right corner so I can hit the switch with my fingertips when shooting normally or with my thumb shooting offhanded. And because it sits low, there's little risk of tripping it by accident.

Electrical tape makes my airsoft world go round. Stocky wobbly? Electrical tape shims. Loose wires? Tape. Crapy rail covers not to spec? Tape

Zipties, velcro straps, ranger bands... This helps avoid that gooey residue after electrical tape comes off!

I sorta like the idea of those ranger bands. Where does one go about finding those? Are they retrofits of something found in a hardware store? A rubber hose perhaps? Not sure which exactly which product?
If you search in google with the term "vertical grip sleeve" you might see some commercial products. Basically wraps the buttons on the grip with buttons sandwiched in. I think the sticky velcro idea is out as it will leave that sticky stuff. Same with electrical tape. I use that stuff around the house and this kinda tape definitely tends to leave the residue glue. I'm looking into probably making my own solution. I want it to be removable and does not leave sticky residue. Probably gonna make my own elastic sleeve with those polyester/rubber elastic stretch "webbings". The stuff they use in clothing or wrist band. |
