Review: G&G TR4-18 Short AEG

Prior to purchasing AEG's it is always a good idea to do some research. The one negative side that I found before ordering this rifle was that the gearbox is custom due to its pneumatic blow back feature.

Speaking of the pneumatic blow back system, it is a great addition to G&G's Top Tech series. The simple fact that it is pneumatic and not electric means it will not put any extra strain on the battery. The blow back system does offer some "recoil" however, it does not compare to a GBB for example. It also adds a unique touch to the sound when firing it.

Out of the box, this AEG has some serious externals. Very solid, no wobbles can be felt anywhere throughout the body. One downside, which for me makes no difference, is that there are no H&K trademarks. Otherwise, I was very impressed with the externals, I would even say they are better than some expensive after market parts.

Internally, nothing short of impressive. It is a TM clone, thus is fully upgradable, with the exception of the gear box. All of the internals are Top Tech stamped so to speak, they are solid and again, better than some after market parts. Disassembling this AEG is nothing different than most M4's. Though, a few extra steps need to be taken due to the ambidextrous style selector switch (the selector switch can be switched for lefties), the functional forward assist which releases the spring, and due to the pneumatic blow back system. Really nothing complicated, just a few extra minutes of your time will be required. I found that this was my best out of the box AEG to date.

My shooting test was limited, and I had to resit the tightbore (yes it comes with a 275 mm 6.03 mm inner barrel) due to some alignment issues with the hopup chamber and hopup rubber. I was fascinated with this AEG's performance, and accuracy. I felt as if my grouping at 100 feet was very tight. If you check some reviews found on youtube, the grouping was about a fist size on full auto at a 90 m/100 feet test.

If you are looking for a M416 style AEG, I would most definitely recommend the G&G TR4-18. It is solid internally and externally, "fully upgradable", comes packed with cool features and performs incredibly. If you are looking for more details, you will find many reviews on google/youtube that may answer some further questions.

Good review but...... Hopefully G&G has reinforced thier ver 2 gearboxes in 2015. They will eventually crack & fail fast. Especially if u try and upgrade your spring to a stronger one. Weakest ver 2 gearboxes on the market. Have seen so many crack I wont even touch a ver 2 G&G.

I've worked on a million G&G top techs.

Pros:
-Solid internals inside gearbox (not gearbox itself) for a stock gun, quite reliable
-Pretty good motor for a stock gun.
-Best looking bolt movement on AEG
-Accurate for a stock gun

Cons:
-Gearbox shell is proprietary and EXTREMELY brittle, always cracks at the front
-Pneumatic blowback is EXTREMELY damaging to the brittle gearbox, introduces massive air leaks and require much heavier springs. Paired with the terrible mechbox shell this I see cracked gearboxes more often than stripped pistons from G&G PBBs.
-Bogus trades.
