Smith & Wesson knife

For those of you knife nuts. I got this one for 60$ today. I have no Idea if I got ripped or not, they where selling it for 80$ but I made a deal.

At first it was not very sharp. So I headed to my friend who has a comple sharpenning shop.

I had the blade sharpenned and polished. Now it's as sharp as a razor.

The blade need a little more polishing.

The jagged edge is an optic illusion on the camera. It's really smooth.

It say on the web that it's 440 steel. I have no other sources of infos. I'd have to look in the box if it's stated otherwise.

Quote:
The Smith and Wesson Model CKSUR1 Search and Rescue Fixed Blade Knife features a 5.88" modified clip point blade made of 440 stainless steel. The blade has a blood groove, a non reflective black coat, and the Smith & Wesson Search and Rescue logo. The rubberized aluminum handle has grooves for secure grip, forward bending metal cross guard and butt cap. The heavy duty nylon sheath is constructed with a hard synthetic liner and metal reinforcements. The sheath also includes a D ring, lashing slots, and a front mounted nylon storage pouch with Velcro closure. The Smith and Wesson Model CKSUR1 Knife is 10.50" overall and weighs 7.4 ounces
Is it good for a knife to be made in steel 440?

Marché aux puces st-martin. The one that was near the door but moved 5 meters deaper in the store. It's now bigger and somewhat better.

BTW, the guy explainned to me that he got busted for all his airsoft guns he had. The cops are pressing charges for gun smugling and resselling and all kind of crazy stuff. He showed me an article that was in the Journal de Montréal. I don't know if it was today or this week.

He is kinda pissed off and afraid. He was selling only cheap HFC sprigners. He also sell Walters PPK bb guns.. wich are more realistic and dangerous than those airsoft cheap ass toys.

anyway, back on topic, my knife is damn nice

440 is a nice steel for knives. im partial to carbon steel myself, but that is mostly just for its eez to work with.

from my understanding 440 is one of the best stainless steels for edge holding and toughness. although this meens it may be difacult to sharpen with a natural stone and that you might have to use a ceramic or dimond stone to sharpen it.

oh, and by the way, thats a nice knife you got there

They provided a strange sharpening "stone". I'd have to take a pic of it. It's a plastic box with little ellyps shaped things on one side. I have no Idea on how to use it properly. It's not a standard sharpenning tool. Anyway, if I ever have to sharpen it again, I'll see wich my friend... he has everything one's need for sharpenning stuff.

What will I do with that knife? Hummm, What do you do with a knife? Cut thing?

The handle is like the combat knife isued to military personnel. The blade is not serated but have a little "cutting curve" so cutting a rope is very easy. The tip is also sharpenned at both edge, so perforating things is very easy.

Possible use:

General cutting
Perforating bulletproof vest (combat)
Stabbing (double blood groove on the blade)

It say search and rescue on it. When I look at the little catalog in the box, all the search and rescue line of knife look a little like this one. It's a more politicaly correct way to say Search and Destroy. Because they are all combat style knife.

The 911 serie are folders... more apropriate to police and paramedic...

No I won't sell this one... I just got it and Im in love with it. I slep with it lastnight ops:
