Fun with MARPAT and jute... **56K - get yourself a REAL modem... ;)
Okay... so I had some spare time today, decided to go hog wild with my MK1 and "go ghillie".
I took some of the MARPAT fabric I got at Walmart and wrapped the barrel in it a bit, then started bundling up little strands of jute in various colors and shades. (I found a neat technique for dying jute, btw...) **Note: it seems a little lighter in color in the pics... must be the flash on the camera or something... I'll get some outdoor pics tomorrow. You'll notice I only covered the barrel and scope since the MK1 isn't a very long gun, and most of the "uncovered" part is going to be under my ghillie (once it's made, anyway.) Plus, my fingers started to blister a bit. lol. I know, I know... I was warned. It's a work in progress. Keep that in mind before you flame me. . |

lol... if I'm ever forced to snipe from within a pack of sheep dogs... I'll never be spotted.
I'm trying to figure out what else I can use to make it better... simple is better, I agree... so it's hard to say... Thanks! |

JacoNB I doubt you'll get flamed, making a gun ghillie or ghillie suit is far from an easy task, nice job btw.

That's cool. Nice job on the ghillie. Take a can of klylon OD paint and spray some on your ghillie to give it different shades. It will mimic dirt and grass better.

It's a good base for now. Best if you make it more brown with some leaf green colours scattered around. Heck, take some strips of camo material and tie a few of those in on there was well to further 'fuck up' the look.

Thanks guys...
Yeah, Walmart has at least 2 different types: MARPAT (Woodland) and MARPAT (Desert). Trouble is, it's like $7.95 a yard here... I ended up getting just a half a yard for this exact purpose. I think I'm going to go back and get some desert pattern stuff too. I actually redid the scope a bit, (after watching "Enemy at the Gates" last night), and covered my scope in frayed strips of MARPAT. I really want to get a wood kit for the stock though. A nice dark brown Walnut stock... *drool* |

That looks awesome man. Good job.
I'll check the Walmart down here to see what they have to offer too. (somehow that seems wrong just saying it.) |

Thanks man!
I went out today into the big field behind my house and snapped some pics. I think it works pretty well in this sort of a setting. What do you guys think? A few dead leaves, and I'm set. . |

Hey Erik Walmart on the north side of RD has it it again in marpat i picked up 3 yrds of it myself. The lady said that in 6 years this is the second time she has seen it and she did say that the last time it was in that a person came in (BOB) and picked up the whole roll . I know they still have some there so if you need or want some i would get in there fast before it is all gone bud. Who knows when they will get more in ?
