Range
Hey there y'all. You guys ahave some cool pics and stuff here and I do ALOT of looking and reading (kinda fun to get away from them uptight F**ks at the hunting boards) .
My question is what kind of range do airsoft guns have? and velocity? Do pistols shoot as fast as the rifles? I have considered getting some for indoor practice instead of shooting one of my SIGs (and all of my ammo) Are they accurate? (anyone have pics of targets, and the range you shot them at?) TIA |

Unfortunately, we're pretty uptight around here too =P
Velocity is usually 250-400FPS, range is at MAX 100ft... usually nowhere near there. Pistols can be upgraded to shoot around 350FPS, but it's expensive to get it to that level. Airsoft for target practice is generally a bad idea... they're plain inaccurate. It sounds like a pellet gun would be much better suited to your needs. |

Range is generally pretty good, maximums for my guns, with the right ammo, my Glock 19 about 120ft easy, 150ft for my MP5, past 200ft with my M24. If you are looking to shoot in yoru basement Boris, a SIG P226 GBB would be awesome for you. Load it up with 0.25g or 0.30g BBs and shoot away. I get about 4" groups with my Glock 19 in my 30ft basement, great fun and cheap (also, don't need ear protection!)

It all depends on what you understand as good range and good accuracy.
If you compare it to real guns, or even decent pellet guns; airsoft will severely disappoint you unless you put a fair chunk of cash into them. If you want a good tackdriver that is cheap to use and relatively cheap to buy, nothing really compares to a good airgun. Specially if you pick a quality brand, usually european. Crosman, for example, does not fit in the 'good' category by my standard. Walther, however, does. Same for offerings from Webley, some from Gamo, and if you can get them the Baikal line has astonishing quality airguns for not much. |

There are airguns that have recoil. Overall I guess it depends on his budget and expectations.
Maybe he should go to a game and ask to try a GBB to find out. |

It really depends on what you are is practicing...
If you are looking to get your draw and sight picture aquire for say...IPSC, then and airsoft pistol is great tool to have in your basement. You can set up targets and get a pretty reasonable accuracy with it from 10-15 feet, so it could be a valid training tool. If you are looking to actually better your accuracy, then you're probably out of luck. Even on gas blow back guns the recoil is far from comparible, and the ballistics are so different that very little will carry over. JUst my 2 cents
