Qualified advise on G36 internals
k, well ive been reading and trying to figure it out on my own, but i just cant get a straight answer. i have a v3 mechbox in an m8 i want to upgrade the gun, im planning on attending keystone and would like a gun that can contend.
origionally i was thinking Guarder FTK-36 mechbox upgrade, but i found this post but it seems this maybe "overkill" along w/a tight bore m4 barrel. im aiming to get close to 400fps, alonge w/ improved accuracey (as if everyone doesnt say that in a thread like this) im looking for advise on what is (and what combination) is actually needed without wasting time and money on redundant parts. spring for sure, barrel for sure, but are gears neccessary, or an upgraded piston and cylinder? i would prefer a full tune up kit like the ftk, and i was contemplating just switching the supplied spring w/ an m120, is that a good game plan? and i dont want to go buy a spring or whatever throw it in and then find its not what i was looking to achieve nore copatibale. anyone w/ a g36c thats fluent in upgrades plz post. if you dont and are just going to talk out your ass and clutter the thread, dont post plz. greylocks, i dont get to drive 2 hours to enjoy the liberty of speaking to other players at games about this. im one of six players down here and none are the wiser to me. and yes ive read around and the faqs lol. but im looking to you for useful advice. |

An M120 will give you the FPS capability you want, but your gears, spring guide, piston and shims are not up to that task. It may last for awhile, but likely will pack it in before August if you do some playing.
The FTK is the best idea as it should cover all your bases if you get a complete kit. Don't forget a good battery to run that gun as well. An 1100mah mini won't cut it. I suggest something more in the 3000mah or larger range, especially if you want to get some trigger time out of the gun. Tighbores are always a good plan and with a quality bb in .25 to .28 range is a good mix of brush penetrating power and accuracy and ok for distance as well.

I think you are forgetting that 400fps is a limit, not a goal to achieve.
Go for a milder spring, metal bushings (if not already in the gun), and you'll be fine. The rest is hopup adjustments. A speed around 340 to 360fps is quite enough and wont require any other parts. |

I'd say to get a FTK, but installing the provided spring ain't an obligation, you could always buy and install another spring that will keep you within a 'healthy' limit. That would also be easier on your battery. If you ask me, a good M110 spring will be just fine in your gun, and new gears, piston, etc, altough not an absolute necessity, will make your gun more reliable on the VERY long run, if the upgrade is made by someone competent, if not, it might make your gun very unreliable.
A tightbore barrel will help accuracy a bit and rise your FPS a tad, but as the wise man (Greylocks) said, it may not be really worth the investment. Given that you're going to Keystone Strike, I'd suggest getting more batteries than spending on questionable upgrades. There's nothing more frustrating than a broken gun, or dead batteries, in a 24Hrs OP

Do not use the gears in the Guarder FTK. I have had significant issues with the step gear (2nd one). About 2/3 of them are significantly defective. Out of plane (gear plane not perpindicular to axle) out or centre or both to significant degrees.
All of the other stuff in the FTK is nice to have but you don't need to mess with the shims if you keep your stock gears and don't mess around with the stock shimming (assuming it was done right in the factory build). Forget about the tightbore. They do not increase fps significantly or improve consistency as much as a clean goo free barrel which is securely mounted.

Metal bushing and either a systema m120, guarder sp100 or 110, shims. Anything else is waisted money.

i have upgraded my SL8 in this order (shoots 370 fps with .20g BBs):
-large battery 9.6 volt 1700mAh Crane Stock Battery -guarder sp100 spring -bushings/re-shim -reinforced spring guide with ball bearing -guarder reinforced tappetplate -systema silent piston head and cylinder hear -hardened anodized aluminum gears -bearings/re-shim still to come: -tightbore barrel -SP110 spring you should be able to do your upgrades in this manner. If you're gonna try and get your gun up to 400 FPS, i'd recommend getting (at the very least): -a large battery -spring -ball bearing bushing and if you wallet allows you, get new hardened gears, because if your spring is too spring it may strip your stock gears. |
