Maximum FPS
What is the Maximum FPS you can get out of an airsoft gun? It seems that 400-415 if the Max.

In Canada we have certain laws we must follow so we are limited in how much we can do to our guns. In the States I have heard of games being played with FPS up to 900fps ... sounds cool yet very dangerous.

for most places, its 400fps with 0.2g for AEGs and 450fps with 0.2g for bolt action
however, thats not universal in Canada, some places in BC run higher fps. |

its also not a law, only field rules, only law I know of in Canada is that if it hits 500something fps AND 5.7J of energy then it counts as a firearm, but with 0.20g BB's to reach 5.7J of energy you need almost 1600fps (400fps is 1.49J)

I think this is getting a little off track. I wanted to know what a tipical AEG was capable of top FPS? Someone responded with 900 FPS, is that correct? Is the Mechbox system able to produce that kind of power?

To answer your question, here in Canada we typically run full auto aeg's up to 400 fps, and if the upgrades are installed by someone who knows what they are doing, the mechbox can last for many season with no problems.
That being said, mechboxes are extremely unforgiving when it comes to ignorance, and improper upgrades can hose a mechbox after only a few hundred rounds. |

Anything is possible, including firearm level velocities. Why do you ask anyway? If you stated some form of clear goal, the question would make more sense. |

From off the shelf parts, I think you can get a standard AEG up to around 700fps with 0.20g BBs, but the costs in performing the upgrade plus the maintenance would be enormous. It would be more economically viable to go with a bolt action rifle. You could attain even higher velocities.
In doing so, you would have to use very heavy BBs (minimum 0.36 gram) just to get a stable enough shot trajectory. At such high velocities, even if you tried to use 0.25 gram BBs, they would fly wild. So in that aspect, your costs for using such a heavily upgraded gun would further increase. I hope you're rich. |

900 fps is possible, but I doubt an AEG can acheive that simply due to cylendar volume. But I might be wrong.
A gas rifle on the other hand is limited by how good your seals are and how much preasure the gun can take. I've seen old JACs run at 600fps easy on a standard gas system. A modded system could hit 900fps without much trouble.

yeah but at that speed, the BB will be going wild as Illusion stated. I think that speed is too fast for a light BB to travel so probably use weights higher than .40 or aluminum BBs.

I didn't have any real reason other then curiosity. I have real steel guns but don't have much time to keep reloading, cleaning and driving to the rang any more. So I have taken up airsoft as a way to kind of still being able to shoot and not need the time to do all of the above. I have a good knowledge of how real guns work so I was interested in what the AEG is capable of.
