Prescription Insert Prices!
I was kinda peved at lenscrafters when I asked what their price was on just
a set of plastic lenses with no coating "$250" I laughed in his face and walked out. So I tried a different place Hakim Optical "$59" I almost got a hardon! oh and Laurier Optical is "$59" and scratch resist coating is "$20" Hakim Optical - $59 Laurier Optical - $59 Both take about 3-5 business days for order. If they try and sucker you into thin lenses tell em off. Your wearing goggles its not like they will make a weight difference. Oh and if you dont have a current prescription they will ask for updated one so beware of an extra $70. Bolle's fit fine over small frame glasses they do touch a bit but feel great. Guarder G-C4's also have a prescription insert but have had a supplier say that they dont accept lenses (Im so fucking confused) working on clearing that one up. Courtesy of www.204tactical.com

I feel your pain. I had to spend a fair chunk on goggles/glasses too. I got a pair of Guarder G-C3's that have a prescription insert for them. $75 from the eye doc later, I can see with them. I can't wear goggles over my glasses 'cuz of the width of my glasses. I also got a set of Wiley-x Nerve goggle that also can take a presription insert. They got a good fit to them.
Oh, btw, that thing in the pic of the G-C4's that looks like a prescription insert, is actually the liner for when you change the glasses to goggle form

Forgot to mention, the rx insert for the wiley's was $75 too, but comes separate and costs an extra $15 or thereabouts. Remember this was from a doctor, not one of the mall stores, which are likely cheaper.

I had my eyes done about a year and a half ago. Best airsoft investment I've made to date.

The contacts that I have cost $157 for a six month supply, wear for 30 days each pair, then throw away. I usually only wear them for airsoft, so my six month supply has lasted me over a year and a half, and I still have three pair left.

Ive been thinking of getting Lazer eye done, once I have money to do it which wont be for a while.
Contacts work good, but I find they irritated the living hell out me most of the time and I havent tried glasses under the goggles yet.

Contacts are great on one hand, but you can't swim with them, shower with them, sleep with them on and you if your hands are dirty when handling them you're screwed for a couple weeks (serious eye irritation).
So it's a double-edged sword. Can't wait till I'm 25 for laser surgery! |

Actually, I've swam and showered with mine and even had a cat nap with them in and my eyes were fine, just have to remember to have your eye drops handy. I've even worn them to work, and I work in a hot kitchen, with all sorts of deep friers around. If I could afford laser work done I would, but airsoft keeps me poor.

Hi
Another option which works great, similar effect to Laser surgery... Ortho-K contact lenses. 2000$ ! but they work amazingly well. You wear them at night, every few days, and when you take them out in the morning, you have perfect vision for 2-3 days. then you stick them back in for a a night I wear mine every night because i fly also and need better than perfect vision. After my first night with these, i attained 20/10 vision, better than 20/20. It a cheaper alternative to lasik, and its not permanent at all, give your eyes 15 days and your eyes go back to normal, if not a bit better because they have been shaped for so long. For the 2000$ you get 2 pairs of lenses, and replacements for about 300$ What costs so much is the time it takes to tweak your custom lenses to give you the desired effect. i went through 3 pairs before i got the perfect ones. all included in the 2000$ Corey Last edited by Corey Darling; December 6th, 2006 at 23:18.. |

Corey, interesting stuff man! How long does each pair of lenses last? For $2000 I hope they're not monthly wear contacts.
As for wearing them at night, wouldn't that cause damage to your eyes? From what I understand from my optometrist, wearing contacts over night drys them out because you are not blinking and lubrication your eye with tears. If left on your eyes overnight I was told that it could seal to your eye and rip out your corneas. I fallen asleep with contacts on and wasnt able to view bright lights for days. Sorry for getting off topic. |

Hey rc_p120
These are hard, air permiable contact lenses, they should last as long as you take care of them. you can actually see 3 very small holes in each lense for the air to pass through. What these lenses do... they flatten your cornea (like lasik, prk) by pushing out matterial to the outer edge of your cornea. The optemetrist uses a cool scanner/camera that reads the surface of your eye, and maps it out in 3d. he then tweaks the lenses until the ring of pushed out tissue is as close to centred as possible and equal on all sides, this will help eliminate halos at night just incase your iris expands larger than the flat area. unfortuanately, my iris gets quite large, and so i have some halos/starbursts at night. He tried getting the manufacturer to create the flat spot as large as possible, but i dont think they were able to. They are certified for over night wear, and because you only wear them for about 8-9 hours a night, they arent nearly as bad as the all day-night soft lenses out there. Because these are hard, they are very easy to take off in the morning, and when i started I had never worn lenses before and hated these things lol, now i can take them off and clean them in less than 3 mins one lense if blue, the other pink so you know which contact is for which eye. To take them off, i just look straight down at a small mirror, stretch my eye lid to the side, by lightly pulling from the outer corners of my eyes to my temples, and they pop right out onto the mirrror After my first night with these, i tried to go without them for as long as i could to see how long before my vision went back to normal. by the end of the second day, i was just about 20/20. The thing is, I cant even stand 20/20 vision anymore lol, not sharp enough, so i wear these everynight, even though, after wearing them for so long now, (since march) i could probably go 3-4 days before hitting 20/20. Please note, I normally have 20/35 vision. The worse your vision, the shorter the effect will last for because it has to push more material out of the way, and therefore wants to restore itself faster. You can however, be pretty blind and it will still work. i'm -.5 diopters, i think you can be as high as -4 -5 ! but dont quote me on that one Last edited by Corey Darling; December 7th, 2006 at 17:52.. |
