Should I buy a Star M-249?
I'm looking for an outdoor Aeg for summer game. I hesitate betwen a long rifle (most likely a M-16) or a support gun by witch I intend a M-249 Mk2. The Star model seem to be cheaper than the other, co It would be my firts choice.
I'd like to have some feed back of any star M-249 user. Does it look great, does it have a good range, is it reliable, how much did you pay it,was it worth the bucks, any thing you tink I should know. Botchbomber Last edited by Mist3r.B; December 12th, 2006 at 16:24.. |

My simple take on M249s is like this:
The STAR M249 is a toy. The Classic Army M249 is a weapon. YMMV. |

If you're on a budget and really wanted a M-249, the Star one is the right choice for you. However...their were complains about feeding problems on the Star M-249, but nothing too serious.
I am not a Star M-249 user, but I have handled the gun at a game a few months back...I was at the receiving end of this gun at the field. One negative impression about this gun it is light and "plasticy" that gives you this toy like feel. That is one reason why I am saving my money for the CA M-249 Para. |

I owned both of them and since my opinion is not as biased as some other people when it comes to CA I will tell you my way of seeing things.
Both of them has their pros and cons obviously. What I preferred about the Star is the way it operates and the auto winding boxmag feature is a neat thing. Sure the Star is plasticy but not everyone necessarily have the need to have a full metal gun. Right now I got the CA and I only got it because I can't stand a plastic gun but that's my personal opinion. I find it annoying to have to push the little button at the bottom of the boxmag for it to wind but the fact that it can take regular AR mags is really nice. Another nice thing is how easy it is to change the spring in it, it's the only thing I did on mine when I had it and I never ran into gearbox problem just some boxmag connection problems which can be easily solved by changing the whole wiring. All in all if you want to go for a cheaper alternative and that will be less of a workout to drag around all day go for the Star you won't be deceived. CA is nice if you have more money to spend on your M249 but be careful of problems you might run into with it. Another alternative would be to wait for the next Star MG, the MK46 which is basically a M249 Para with a RIS and railed feed cover. Here is link to the MK46 : http://www.starairsoft.com/product_d...?productid=205

[QUOTE=Botchbomber;393398]Sorry, what do mean by at the receiving end?
My english is a boit rusted I was at the 'receiving end'...meaning I was being shot at by my opponent who carried a Star M-249. Later on that day he let me play around with his Star M-249. As far as reliability and quality of the CA M-249…if I am going to invest that much money on an AEG, I’ll make sure to get it from a reputable retailer like ASCA and have them set it all up and test the gun for me before taking it home. That is why we ask questions and do our research every time we're interested on a certain airsoft product. Last edited by longshot; December 12th, 2006 at 18:46.. |

I have both currently. CA and the STAR and I used to have a TOP one too.
Anyhow if given the choice of what to take to a game its always the STAR. Why? Because of practical reasons. Its far lighter and easy to wield all day. But more importantly because the gun is so much more reliable it seems. I have had my STAR para for over a year now shooting at 360 FPS and the only issue I had was an electrical problem nothing mechanical. My CA on the other hand is another story. Whenever my team plays in Milsims and host games everybody wants to use the STAR. My CA sits lonely because people know they can't depend on it in the field when the BB's start flying. If you want a display piece that doesn't get much action get the CA. If you want a support weapon your team can rely on game after game go STAR. This has been my experience of course other peoples experiences vary but this is my opinion. |
