TM M14 vs. TM M14 Socom

just out of curiousity, whats the differences between the M14 and the M14 Socom, is the only difference the shortened barrel and colour?

As far as I've seen, and I've been following this pretty closely, yes. Black, shortened barrel, SOC16 flash hider and scout RIS mount.

the Socom is designed and built for CQB whereas the M14 is for semi-sniping, woodland, assaulter but definately not CQB

so all the internals are basically the same? would the shortened barrel have any noticable effect on the range? from wat i hear, the TM m14 is known for its great range as a stock aeg.

No difference from what I've been told, the SOCOM shoots like its older brother. The difference in barrel length is really not that much.
