HK417 project

I like the HK416 but I wanted something 7.62mm instead of 5.56mm, well, just because. I picked up a used G&P SR-25 from Krooked Atmosphere that was already modded to use a standard ver.2 mechbox instead of the long one. Ground down the stub that prevents the selector from going to full auto. Because of the selector plate on the standard ver.2 mechbox it was already full auto capable. Its got the following parts:

-G&P SR-25
-King Arms 14.5" aluminum one piece M4 outer barrel (re stamping it with 7.62mm since it currently says 5.56mm)
-Prometheus M110 spring
-all or at least most SystemA internals
-G&P reinforced mechbox shell
-King Arms G27 grip
-TM EG1000 motor
-Magpul trigger guard (a must for all armalites!)
-Hurricane battery slither stock
-G&P rebar cutter flash hider

Heres what I was looking to accomplish (from HKpro):

Heres a pic of it so far:

I know the real HK417 uses polymer mags and has a slightly different receiver but I'm trying to get as close as possible. I searched high and low for someone that did the same but all I could find where the SR-25k URX conversions and no one that tried to make an HK417 so as far as I know I'm the first one to try this. I was originally going to use the URX kit when I realized that the RIS is the exact same length as the stock SR-25 RIS. The G27 grip and flash hider aren't from the HK417 but I wanted them just for looks, I'm sure the real HK417 could take similar accessories anyway. I don't know of anywhere to get lowcaps for the SR-25, I'm currently looking into modifying TM M14 mags or failing that building shells from sheet steel and mounting VN M16 mags in them. I'm also looking into getting HK trades engraved into the receiver similar to the hurricane HK416 kit.

Heres some photoshopped versions of mods I am considering for the RIS to get it closer to matching.

Slight mod:

More complex mod but I think I prefer it:

Any comments? Opinions? Feel free to criticize it so long as its constructive.

Doesn't really look like a 417 to me. I'd consider getting a King Arms "troy" style handgaurd, and modding that. It's much nicer, and more true to the gun you're trying to build.

Its a nitro v flip up sight, can't remember the exact model off the top of my head. Got it from redwolf.

Do you have a link to that? Been looking around at different RIS' but havn't found one thats just right, thats why I was considering modding this one.

*EDIT* Ah, found this, would look a lot better (link to 10" version because it has better pictures of the RAS on a gun, will buy 13" version if I do): http://www.kingarms.com/productpage.asp?prodid=878

Its based off of an SR-25, the mag is the size of an M14 mag, its .308 sized. Thats the stock RAS that comes with the SR-25 and I'm trying to mod it or possibly replace it.

Yeah, the receiver I can't do all that much about because no 417 receivers exist, the only 7.62mm armalite receivers there are are SR-25 ones. The RIS I am looking at modifying or replacing to get a better look, this gun isn't that finished yet.

I didn't even know an HK 417 existed. I think you have the inspiration you just need to find some better matching parts. Reciever is obviously impossible unless you get one customly engraved, but you are on the right track. Good Luck!
