AUG Upgrade Questions
Hi there. Sometime in the future I may want to upgrade my AUG.
I'm not sure what it shoots right now, but it's a stock TM mechbox. Now, I was thinking about a 650mm barrel. Of course, I've read that with this long a barrel, I'd need a bore-up cylinder kit, correct? Such as this? http://cgi.ebay.com/Guarder-BORE-UP-...QQcmdZViewItem What exactly do bore-up cylinder kits do? Just push more air? And it says that "Bore-Up Cylinder Set need to be used with M120 ~ M170 AEG Spring (Recommended by Guarder)" so I'm assuming I would need to upgrade the spring (which was another upgrade I was thinking). I would want ~350 FPS or so. This would in turn require a 9.6V battery right? [*EDIT*: Actaully I think the 8.4V battery would be alright and then I wouldn't have to upgrade other internals like the motor and gears right?] I've also read that I would want to get metal bushings if I upgrade the spring. Can anyone provide more information / agreement / disagreement / suggestions about what I said? Last edited by Styrak; August 11th, 2007 at 18:29.. |

There is no real reason to go beyond a 500mm barrel for the vast majority of people, so just avoid bore-up kits unless you have the expertise to know why you'd actually need one.
If you're just going for better grouping and higher fps, just get a tightbore, aftermarket hopup bucking, metal bushings (and new shims), metal bearing spring guide, bearing polycarb piston head and depending on the spring in question, potentially new gears. If you stick to MS110 or less, you can run on stock gears for a good while. You might need a new piston, but TM's stock piston is actually better than some aftermarket stuff, so you might not need to touch it depending on how far down the road the upgrade is.

It's just that I HAVE the outer barrel length to add a 650mm barrel, so why not. (And the AUG comes stock with a 510mm inner barrel by the way :P)

Just because you have the room doesn't make it practical, or good.

Hmmmm.
Just bought an AUG Mil, I'd like to see where this thread goes. I have the same expectations as you do (~350 FPS, accurate, longer range, high rate of fire- I'll use a 9.6v), so we'll see what works best.

Good stuff. I'm going to see how it's firing first (haven't received my batteries yet) and then I most likely first wanted to get a longer inner barrel, and then do a spring upgrade. Except you won't want a 650mm barrel! :P
