Systema PTW pistol grips..

Hey guys, just wondering if you can swap out the pistol grip on the PTW? Will Magpul MIADs, or Tango Down Battlegrips fit? What needs to be done to make them fit if they don't already?

Thanks for your time.

Also, don't reply if you've never handled a PTW.

From what I've seen the MIAD, tango down and ergo grips can all be coaxed to fit but you need a dremel and alot of patience.
Have you looked over at http://www.systema-ptw.com/forum/default.asp

MIAD grips will work with heavy modification. Check out the SystemA PTW forums for more details. The link below takes you to the thread about the MIAD's and several others. I'm not sure about the Tango Down grips though.

shouldn't RS grips work on the ptw since it is basically the same dimensions? I assume grips made for CA, TM and the like would need modification for the systema.

RS grips will only work with modification because the RS grips aren't designed to mount a motor in the bottom of them. At best, the RS grips have a tool bay or battery compartment. Some of the RS grips are solid all the way through and require heavy amounts of drilling and dremmeling to hollow them out.

TM, CA and other regular AS grips are too fat to fit on the PTW because normal airsoft motors require a larger amount of space.

Hmm from what I saw, it doesn't look like it works out too well.

Maybe I should be talking to Oz...

Oz had some problems but if you look through the gallery photos you'll see it can be done.

Wouldn't the airsoft version of the MIAD be able to work? They said it's a bit bigger than RS.. Can't be THAT much bigger than the RS version. Can it?

Enough to feel it just from holding it. It's quite noticeable, unfortunately. Even if you used an airsoft one, you'd have to find a way to shim it up nice and tight just so the thin PTW motor could sit inside without wobbling everywhere and stripping up the gears.

So.. if I were to get an aluminum sheet, bend it to conform to the motor/mount, so it acts as a shim, and a guard , I'd be good to go..

Hmm.. Can't wait to try it out ^_^

The PTW motor is held very securely in place to the lower receiver so I don't think the concerns of wobble and stripped gears are warranted.

You have to remember that on new MAX guns, there is a motor height adjustment via a ball bearing and set screw, not unlike an AEG. Make sure you incorporate that into your design when Dremelling out a new grip. Older generation guns do not always have this adjustment built into the grip (it's built into the motor housing instead).

Real grips use a large screw to hold the grip to the lower receiver on a real gun. This material is quite thick and will need to be removed, as well as some of the internal material to widen the grip. Real guns don't have motors, an Systema engineered a motor for scratch to ensure that the end result of a grip was the same size as the real one. But a PTW grip has much thinner walls that the real one in order to make this happen.

You will have to the same thing with any real grip you get. Ask wey ferro on ASC here how much work it was. 2 hours on the Dremel and a headache later and it was done.

I can deal with a headache I just don't want to spend $60-$70+ on a pistol grip, and find out it can't work out..

I think I may go with the MIAD.

BTW, how are your systemas doing, mcguyver?
