started upgrading my mech box
alright ive gotten everything apart so far so good its a v1 gear box so the bushings dont fit very well. How long do you think i should freeze the bushings for?

You should not have to freeze anything at all... Why dont you have a local experienced person help you? It will avoid tons of headaches.

well v1 mech boxes have different size bushings apparently
so i might just have to let the mech box sit in the sun and the bushings freeze |

Why not just get V1 parts?

its not going to work that way, steel expands/contracts at a rate of 12 millionths of an inch per inch per degree, you need to approach this from a different angle

alright if it doesnt work ill have to file the mech box a smidge

Ya know, when you file open the bushing holes, if they are off-axis by only a mm or two, you WILL strip your gears and piston, right?

just get the V1 parts, filing or altering dimensions will cause problems in other internal parts, and if you shrink fit them in it'll crack you mechbox.

they are sitting in my mech box with no cracks or anything it was just a slightly tight fit, nothing extreme. The reason i dont get v1 parts is because they dont exist unless you special order the stock parts

...which is exactly what you're going to end up doing when your mechbox explodes. And then you'll learn how much of a pain in the ass it really is to get v1 parts. Seriously, get the correct parts now so your gun will actually last more than 2 games. Although, you didn't listen to anyone when we told you not to get a FA-MAS for your first gun, not to upgrade it to the point you wanted too, so why I'm even typing this is beyond me...

Guys, he may read the advice but he's not following it. Let him find out the hard way.
There's nothing else we can do, really. |

So what could happen if you heat the gearbox (Electric Heatgun) and freeze the bushings (Dry Ice)? There is a small chance nothing bad will happen but....what could possibly happen is that when the mechbox contracts around the bushing you could very well crack the mech box. I know that finding someone that has V1 Bushings in stock is hard but it really is the best way to go. I put V2 bushing in my mech box and I had to spend $70 for the Reamer to make the holes larger but I was guarantied that the holes were in alignment when I was done.
Pay attention to the advice that is being given. It is possible to learn from someone elses bitter experience |
