AK47s

Hey all
I was thinking of converting my tmak47s to a TMAK47. Now this gun was a tmak47, but the previous owner decided to convert it and now i want to convert it back. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this type of conversion (already pmd the previous owner) and also about purchasing a metal body for the ak47 (which is the best one). One of my friends has offered to make me a wood kit . So ive got that stuff pretty figured out and im assuming seeing as how both are ak47's that i wont have too much problem putting on the metal body and wood kit. But if my friend has problems or doesnt have the time to do it do you guys know of prices or where one may purchase an ak wood kit???
Thanks in advance,
Relja

The metal body and the wood you should be able to get from Jugglez (airsoftparts.ca).

You will need a full stock receiver, stock trunnion, and stock with buttpad. You will also have to rewire the gun so the battery sits in the stock (if you want to, it makes sense to do so, so you can use large batteries... and custom install an ICS bolt perhaps).

A metal body will run you about $100, which ain't too bad at all.

Good luck on the project,

Cheers,
Alex

If you want to go back to the full stock, simply find the appropriate receiver and drop in your mechbox. As for the best one, I've had my G&P one on there for about a year now and I have absolutely zero complaints. Of course, its starting to wear now but with all the use this is expected. The wear is concentrated around the mag well from using mostly metal mags, and in the track of the selector lever (AK groove, very common). Combined with my King Arms metal front set, its been called "the most solid AK I've ever held". You could probably kill a horse with it.

As for wood kits, I have only had experience with the King Arms set. I found it to be fairly nice. The pistol grip was much too 'fat' for my liking, but thats personal taste. The front grips are comfortable, and the finish is only starting to wear now. This is wear from handling of course, and not including scratches etc. Actually, the other day I found a dent in them from a BB hit. The stock was nice, a bit longer than the TM one but it makes it that much easier to use with PB goggles. As well, its long enough that I can fit a 9.6v large battery in there. The only gripe I had was with the stock plate. To remove it, you have to fiddle with two screws and two metal plates.

Anyway, thats what I can contribute from personal experience! Google will help you find more reviews. Also, have a look at the forums over at Red Alliance for any and all of you AK needs and questions.

Alex as usual you are the first to answer with your great knowledge of ak's very much appreciated . So far ive seen the wood body by G&P, which i do like the look of and will probably need to rewire the gun, which i hope i can do without need of a gunsmith. And yes i would like a custom ics bolt , you know me too well. Where did you see that $100 metal body. The wood kit is about 200 itself.

Woah! Looks like Jugglez is no longer carrying metal bodies, damn it!

Err... I actually don't know what to suggest at this time. Contact Jugglez.

I got my metal body from him through a King Arms group order.

Cheers,
Alex

I got my wood set through ASCA when they were still open. Went down and bought it in person. The metal front set came from Jugglez, I think.

What about the m80? Its pretty much a AK74, just with 5.56x45 ammo, but i believe if i put in the AK74 metal body i can use the ak74 mags. And get an ak74 wood kit, but just need to get a custom front wood set.

Looks the same, except it ALSO has a magazine that you'll never find in airsoft. It still needs an RPK Stamped, heavy front trunnion receiver that I haven't really seen in airsoft, as well as the larger buttstock, 3 holed front grip set, pistol grip, compensator... not a single part of an AK-74 wood kit would match the Yugo parts, at all.

5.56 mags are not available in airsoft either.

If you want to build something "close", then a stamped style AKM or higher receiver, and a 5.45 AK-74 mag would suffice I suppose... I'd stick with the M70 project.

I don't think I've seen a proper Yugo built in airsoft, ever.

Where would i be able to get the longer outside barrel? If i cant find it i may just stick to the M70 version one which has the akm barrel, but ill need the endpoint for the akm. Ancorp this would be where ur knowledge comes in once more .

The barrel looks the same as a regular AK. Its the grenade launcher attachment that you need. Perhaps someone can make one on a lathe for ya...

Cheers,
Alex

That actually isn't a longer outer barrel, it's a screw on rifle grenade launcher.

This thread might be of interest to you, on Red-Alliance:

Also... if you do go through with this, i'd be interested in the AK-47S receiver/stock assembly if it is in working condition.
