Under 18? In Ontario? Want to go to an Airsoft game?
Under 18? In Ontario? Want to go to an Airsoft game?
The answer is NO. I am posting this cause without fail every game I host, I get a min of 1-2 minors asking me if they can come. THEN I have to go about explaining why `18+ is 18+. Then sometimes when the mood strikes I also ask where they bought their AEG (which I 99% of the time never ever get an answer to)? There are numerous reasons why it's 18+. It is not a reflection on you personally when we say NO. Seriously, I know schools teach you english and well many moons ago we had to have 5 english credits to graduate high school so I know you teens can read. Please other hosts chime in on this!!

If this is based on me and only me because I've asked, it's because I just signed up not a while ago, and I just got an explaination from you that it's all 18+. Only asked once, will be the last. Got the AEG from kijiji with a brother-in-law. Do something about it to protect your sport. I've seen too much AEG Rifles on Craigslist and kijiji. Why not complain? They need their license to sell don't they? |

There are two ways to prevent this, one requires some effort, the other requires a decision from the owners of this site.
1) Read the FAQ/Information section, all the basic answers are there... but nobody reads it. 2) Make this entire site 18+ to post. |

Ive always thought of #2.
Our age verifiers would have a bit more work to do, but that is not to say we could not also have a few more volunteers to do so, and it would weed out trash and just keep the people who have true interest in airsoft, but at the sametime theres that little voice in the back of my head that says its kind of a bad idea for numerous reasons that I dont feel like typing cause Im face deep in cheesecake at 11:45 in the morning.

mmmmmmmmmm..cheesecake...mmmmmm damn.. #2 would be nice but not all that practical with the current setup that ASC has. Even with volunteers. I post 18+ for the games in the threads, and as Greylocks pointed out no one reads (the FAQs) or anything else.

If you guys stick with number 2, how many people are going to lose interest in the sport? For me, I'm just waiting till I'm old enough, not sure if I'll lose interest in this hobbie and sport.
I've watched videos on Youtube on a huge event "Operation Irene 1,2,3,4&5" and hey, I got interested. Quitted paintball because airsoft looks fun with replica weapons, frags, and especially that it is fun like paintball, but to feel like you're in a war game. If you chose number 2, the only way to get people interested is asking other 18+ people to this sport rather than letting underage learn about this sport. I just registered about 10 days ago and I'm learning alot from this forum/site. In my parenting class since I will be a Paramedic after college, children from 14-16 needs to find a hobbie of their interest. So I was interested in this since 13-14. I don't know if you think what I'm saying is right or wrong, but this is coming from a thought. |

Want to stop it? Join the Police or find a way for websites like kijiji to comply with the laws that exist. Good luck. If everyone simply followed the principle that you can own an airsoft legally the moment you can vote, a lot of problems would be reduced. If the others would simply bother to get parental consent (and attendance at events), it would reduce more problems. Problems would not entirely disappear (there are stupid adults) but those who are dumb would suffer the legal consequences of being stupid instead of their mom or dad. Right now, too many lie and cheat their way into getting an airsoft gun. There's no real way to stop it either. People who run games face FAR fewer legal and insurance problems if they simply stick with the Age of Majority laws. Why would anyone spend thousands of dollars extra in Insurance for a property they own? I doubt the teenagers would cover the difference in costs. I sure dont want to be held responsible for a teen just because I happen to own land or run a game. They are not my kid, not my problem. Someday, a teen will be stupid with a gun they got their parents to buy, they will get caught, and all hell will break loose. Maybe it will require a parent to go to jail or face fines before the clues finally stick. This will only change if the laws change. Guess what? To change laws you have to be able to vote. The rest is a process. Or (to those concerned) you can be 'mature' enough to respect the laws that are in place. You can wait, unless you die you will reach the age of 18. That's my favorite pet peeve comment: "I am mature and responsible!" Mature, maybe, but not legally responsible (that is a Law). Certainly too many are not 'mature' enough to wait, no matter what they claim. The few who are become excellent players and members of the community. |

Yeah, website 18+ and it's the end of airsoft...
Think about it, if people under 18 can't have access to the website, how do they know the rules ? How can they gain interest in airsoft if they can't even have the informations to keep feeding this interest ? |
November 16th, 2007, 14:03 | #10 |
Mr Hitman, if we'd go with 18+ to READ, why would it be a problem? The only thing you could not do is post questions that are already answered or irrelevant to you since you cant buy/own or as said likely play with an airsoft anyway?
Are you saying that the thousands of websites you can only read on are useless? |

Kinda like reading a book, it allows you to learn and inform yourself even if you did not write it. |

I wouldnt care is this site went 18+, as long as it had been made far easier to get age verified.

Yeah of course you can inform yourself, but what about questions ? What about opinions on different things ?
I'm not against 18+ for post, I just say we could possibly think of something better |

The majority of the questions are in the FAQ.
Opinions based on experience are in the Reviews section. You can search the site too... |
