Want to make a LSG from a M16
Hey guys. I'm new to airsoft. So I need some players advice. So hear I go...
I have a TM M16A3 with RIS rails on it. I got the rifle off T_A_N_K. The gun runs beautifully, with good upgrades in her. I bought a good strong battery off Schwag (9.6 x 3800mil), and a Star C-Mag. What I need from you guys out there is advice to turn it into a Light Support Gun. I don't want to cough up $700 to $1200 on a M249. I would like to turn this baby into somekind of masterpiece. So guys give me some advice... Thanks, Gun runner.

You want a LSG in terms of function, looks, or both? You've already got basically everything you need to imitate a LSG in terms of function, the bar for functional support weapon in airsoft doesn't stray far from typical upgraded guns or even some stock ones. Add a bipod and you're set.

A reliable gearbox would be a good start. So upgrading the mechbox to handle thousands of rds is the first priority. Then a red dot sight and bipod set up. An extra battery wouldn't hurt either.

By the time you add a box mag, bipod, enhance or replace the internals, you're already very near the cost of a cheap M249, like the A&K.
Just use is as it is, with lots of mags.

Well, a support weapon doesn't NEED to have a drum, box or hicap magazine. The M1918 BAR is a support weapon and it just used magazines. As well as the new colt IAR (M16 that fires from open bolt) that's in development.
So from a TM, you'll need a new mechbox shell, piston, preferably a silent head set for less impact on the shell, since you have a large battery you won't need torque up gears but it would be a good idea to get either a G&P or systema gearset to replace the stock TM gears, if they are stock TM gears. Spring guide is always a great idea for increased consistency. Don't worry about a tightbore or hopup rubber as this would increase your accuracy and therefore decrease your value as a support weapon. And buy lots and lots of lowcaps mags lol If your field allows you to use a drum mag I guess that's fine too... |

Many games won't allow you to use and M16 as a support gun, unless it's a SHRIKE. It depends I guess on whether you are going after a look, or a gun that will fill a designated role (usually with accompanying ammo limits and rules) in a game.
